Alviro Petersen to miss tour game – Cricket News Update
South African opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Petersen-c1028, is unlikely to be fit for the team’s final tour game against Derbyshire as he is still recovering from the grade one hamstring strain, which he sustained during his stupendous 182-run effort Headingley.
"Alviro is progressing well with rehab after the grade one hamstring strain he sustained at Headingley but he is unlikely to feature in the tour match against Derbyshire," Mohammed Moosajee, the South African team manager said.
"He will be focusing on his rehabilitation with the aim of making sure he is fully fit for the final Test at Lord's."
After a relatively slow start to the tour, the 31-year-old proved his worth to the team by notching up a crucial 182 to clear any doubts over his place in the side. His innings was all the more significant as it had come under tough playing conditions of the opening morning, and also that his previous four outings on tour totalled just 42.
During the later parts of his almost nine-hour knock, Petersen reportedly strained his hamstring early on day-2 while playing a cut short off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705. He batted for almost 25 overs following that injury before being dismissed shortly after lunch.
He then had to sit out both http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Faf-du-Plessis-c1427, who was brought into the squad as cover for Albie Morkel, fielded for the remaining duration. The opener, nonetheless, did come out to bat for the second time, at no.8, and remained not out.
Petersen’s involvement is unlikely as the management is eager to give him extended rest. His place will be taken up by Du Plessis, who will be eager to get much-needed batting practice in order to adequately prepare, if given call-up.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JA-Morkel-c1613, the all-rounder, is also making steady progress as confirmed by Moosajee. “Albie's has responded well to the cortisone injection he received last week. Our physiotherapist, Brandon Jackson, will work on getting him to full bowling fitness during the coming week."
The management further has allowed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JH-Kallis-c1692 to take part in the tour game after both recovered from their respective knee and lower back pain.
