Always Jumping....normal or extra bouncy?

Hi all..

we just set up my son's Rainforest Jumperoo a few weeks ago, and now ALL he wants to do is jump. He will go in there for hours at a time and bounce and bounce (the song has been stuck in my head for a week now...it's brutal). I'm just wondering if this is completely normal to "bounce this much" or is he just an extra "bouncy" kid? Also can bouncing in it (set to the right height etc) hurt his little legs at all? Or do damage to the bones at all?

Seriously, he bounces A LOT and then screams when you take him out because he wants to be back in. He has already been jumping for a total (not consecutive time) of over 5 hours today.... Good God..

thanks so much for the help!!

  1. LOL I have a swing in the door that grandbaby loves to jump in. The other day I saw she was quiet and I called her name and got up and she was standing in the swing sound asleep !!!! As long as you dont leave him in it for hours at a time and you have it set right let him enjoy it, Much safer then a walker, you might all so get an exersauce so you could change back and forth

  2. Well my son is 5 months and he loves his jumperoo too! It's actually the best place for me to put him when I want to get some things done, BUT LOL he only jumps for about 15..20 minutes MAX without getting fussy to get out. And he LOVES kicking his legs, when he is not in it..he is constantly kicking his legs. And if you hold him on your lap he'll just start bouncing(jumping). I thought my son was exceptionally bouncy, or into kicking and CONSTANTLY moving..but i see you've outdone me LOL

Brody prefers to be on the floor on a blanket with his toys, even though he always gets OFF the blanket! :)

As long as it is on the correct setting I dont think there is a problem..As long as he isnt landing on the side of his foot (my son was doing that)

But I would be cautious of his legs being in that position for an overextended amount of time.

  3. I was the same way when I was little and it didn't do any damage to me.

  4. If anything, I'm sure it'll strengthen his lower body. I don't think it'll have any negative effects unless there are disclaimers on it. Count yourself lucky. My youngest wouldn't jump much at all.

  5. Things like walkers, jumperoos, exersaucers, etc should rarely be used and only for 15-20 minutes per day, NEVER 5 HOURS!!!

According to the Children's Hospital of San Diego, "Baby jumpers...promote movement patterns that are not useful in normal development including tiptoe standing and fast uncontrolled movements. The exercise your baby gets does not promote the development of trunk and leg control or the balance needed for walking. Additionally, it may limit time your baby spends on his tummy developing the valuable skills for crawling."
