Alyssa Anderson conquers Women’s 200m freestyle heats: Day two – 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational
Alyssa Anderson of University of Arizona conquered the preliminary rounds of Women’s 200m freestyle on second day of the 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational in Nebraska on Saturday, June 9.
The 21-year-old Anderson remained dominant over her challengers throughout the four-lap discipline and snared the fastest qualification spot of the event. With her immaculate efforts, she remained considerably faster from her fellow swimmers and qualified into the final as top contender for gold medal.
Her impressive pace placed her nearly two body lengths ahead of her closest rival and she hit the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 01.68 seconds.
With her phenomenal effort, she remained 2.03 seconds faster from Samantha Shellem of La Mirada Armada, who entered the final round as second fastest swimmer with an effort of 2 minutes and 03.71 seconds.
Shellem was chased by Whitney Burnett of Una FORD-AZ, who stayed nearly half a body length behind and emerged on the finishing wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 04.34 seconds.
Fourth best qualifying spot of the race was secured by Margo Geer of University of Arizona, who was 0.44 seconds apart and finished her race in a time of 2 minutes and 04.78 seconds.
In the meantime, Darian Townsend of Tucson Ford Deal occupied the finest qualification spot of Men’s 200m freestyle. The 27-year-old Townsend continued his thrilling pace throughout the discipline and reached the finishing wall with the timing of 1 minute and 51.24 seconds.
Townsend was chased by Peter Stacy of University of Arizona, who claimed second best qualification spot of the discipline by reporting a time of 1 minute and 51.54 seconds.
Similarly, Stacy enjoyed an advantage of almost 0.70 seconds over Dominik Koll of NYC-Lions-MR/Col, who ended third in the event by posting an effort of 1 minute and 52.22 seconds.
Koll was chased by Jean Basson of Tucson Ford Deal, who finished fourth in the discipline by posting a time of 1 minute and 52.96 seconds.
In addition, these qualifying swimmers will face each other in the playoff to secure gold medal in their respective events.
