Alyssa Anderson seizes Women’s 200m freestyle gold: Day two – 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational
Alyssa Anderson of University of Arizona seized gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle on day two of the 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational in Nebraska on Saturday, June 9.
Anderson faced no problem in sustaining her top qualification spot of the discipline as she sprinted her way towards the finishing end for gold medal. With her alluring efforts, she dictated terms to her challengers and reached the victory stand for the
title of the event.
Her stupendous effort remained more than two body lengths faster and she tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 00.68 seconds.
The gold medallist remained 2.30 seconds faster from Samantha Shellem of La Mirada Armada, who stayed prominent for silver medal of the discipline by producing a time of 2 minutes and 02.98 seconds.
Third spot of the race was secured by Rebecka Palm of Wisconsin Aquatics, who stayed only half body length slower from her foregoing finisher and posted a time of 2 minutes and 03.39 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Kathryn Campbell of Swim Pasadena-CA, who stayed 0.90 seconds slower and settled on the finishing wall as fourth best swimmer with the timing of 2 minutes and 04.29 seconds.
In the meantime, Darian Townsend stunned his supporters by finishing first in the Men’s 200m freestyle. The 27-year-old Townsend remained comfortably faster from his competitors and surfaced on the finishing end with an effort of 1 minute and 49.66 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Dominik Koll of NYC-Lions-MR/Col, who was 2.03 seconds apart and made his way to the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 51.69 seconds.
Koll was chased by Jordan Huff of Club Hawkeye-IA, who completed the podium by ending third in the event with the timing of 1 minute and 52.43 seconds.
Huff was chased by Jean Basson of Tucson Ford Deal, who settled on the finishing end as fourth best swimmer with the timing of 1 minute and 52.79 seconds.
In addition, the position holders received medals for their notable efforts in the 200m discipline after the session.
