Am I Blue has plenty going for her in At The Races Sky 415 Handicap Hurdle at Newton Abbot
Fitness is the only concern for Am I Blue, otherwise Mrs D. Thomas’ mare has plenty going for her in At The Races Sky 415 Handicap Hurdle, to be hosted by Newton Abbot on Tuesday, September 25th.
The going at Newton Abbot is soft - a thing unlikely to bother the 6-year-old. She was an easy winner on heavy ground here two years ago, and her current mark is quite workable.
The mare’s present form also does not look a major issue. She faced a couple of unlucky defeats at the start of this season, but did not lose confidence. Her latest act was an improved one, as she seized the second place in the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance
Mares' Handicap Hurdle at Ffos Las.
Under Matthew Stanley, she led early on, but lost the advantage in the middle. As a result, she had no chance of challenging the leader, Mavalenta. To take an idea of her chances on soft ground, one needs to refresh a bit of memory. In the afternoon of September
6, 2010, Am I Blue raised many eyebrows by delivering a fantastic performance.
The conditions were so testing that more than half of participants failed to complete their run. The daughter of Dubai Destination, on the other hand, was quick as ever. In the hands of Richard Johnson, she comfortably notched up the first place by 22 lengths.
She is more than capable of tackling heavy ground, and will be a tough fellow to beat. There are eight other horses in the line-up for today’s 2m6f event. As per the schedule, the class 4 contest is due to get underway at 17:20 GMT. The ultimate hero will
not only get plenty of admiration, but also a cash prize worth £2,924.
Cerveza Dinero is currently the centre of attention. The 8-year-old found only one competitor too strong on his Sunday’s start at Uttoxeter. There is nothing wrong with his current form, but Newton Abbot’s soft ground will be a worry.
After a long absence, A Nun With A Gun returned to action with a good run in June. She is fresh, and can make things tricky for the rest. Nevertheless, the punters should stick only with Am I Blue, who handles this sort of ground very well. Good luck to
all.
