Question:

Am I Republican or Democrat?

Without immature and abhorrent remarks, could someone please explain to me how I would know if I was a Democrat or a Republican (or neither)? There are times when I find myself agreeing with Republicans, and there are often times when I find myself agreeing with Democrats as well. I just don’t know what basic specifications would have to be apparent in order for me to know which political party I should permanently side with. I’ve always said that I wouldn’t commit to either one---I would just commit to whatever/whomever I felt was right whether it was a Republican or Democrat, but I guess it would be nice to know if my values closely resemble a specific party. Sometimes I feel kind of dumb not knowing.

  1. Vote for whom you believe will do the best job. It doesn't matter which party your registered with, you still can vote the person, not the party.

I used to be a Dem decades ago, didn't like the way they were headed. Registered Republican. Decided I didn't want to belong to either party. I am now registered Independent. I still believe in 90 % of what the Republicans stand for....

  2. If you don't know, then you are probably an Independant.  It really only matters in primary voting.

  3. Do you believe in the Constitution, as it was written?

Do you believe that everyone should be held responsible for their own behavior?

Do you believe that every human being, born & unborn, has the right to life, liberty & the pursuit of happiness?

Do you believe that we must stand up to terrorists and tyrants?

Do you believe in the free enterprise system?

If you answered "Yes" to these questions, you are a Republican.

    ______________________________________...

Do you believe that there should be a protected class, and that only you, and those who think like you, know what is best for them?

Do you think that the government has all the answers and should be the ultimate provider for all our needs?

Do you think that, "Jesus", "Christian", "10 Commandments" & "Bible" are curse words, the underlying cause of all the ills of our nation, & should never be heard or seen publicly?

Do you think that an unborn child should be held responsible for the actions of his/her parents, to the extent of their (the child's) death?

Do you believe that the government should provide health care for all citizens, as well as immigrants (especially illegal), and that those greedy people who make over minimum wage, or have been enterprising enough to create their own business, should be saddled with the cost?

Do you think that the greatest problem with the U.S. is that pesky Constitution and that the men who wrote it were nothing more than a bunch of white guys with wigs?  Also, do you think that Marx & Lenin were on the right track, but that only you and your friends can really make socialism/communism work?

If you answered "Yes" to these questions, then you are a Democrat.

  4. no you aren't dumb for not knowing and you shouldn't give your allegiance to either side  both are equally corrupt just do as you have been vote for the candidate you think has your best interest in mind and remember you are an American first

  5. You are a moderate of either party.  Don't let the party line discourage you.  You should be able to vote wisely and rationally without the "hardliners" hounding for your support.

I'm a registered Democrat but I don't adopt all the Democratic philosophies.

  6. It used to be that Republicans stood for support of big business and Democrats supported social programs and more give-aways to the poor.

Now, it turns out that Big Business is mega corrupt, and social programs that were designed to benefit the poor, actually KEEP them poor.

And both sides lie. I registered independent because if I were to vote in the primary, you can only vote in the primary for either Democrat or Republican anyways.

  7. Like most American you are an independent. Don't feel bad you are in the majority.

  8. I agree with the Democrats on most issues, not all so therefore I consider myself a Democrat. Create a list of the top 5 issues that matter to you and write down how you feel and then see which party comes closest to your beliefs

  9. Take this political quiz

or get involved reading the news

  10. Sounds like you may be a moderate.  Here are some guidelines that may help you figure it out, and remember, these are general guidelines -- not all Democrats and Republicans fit these criteria:

Republicans are pro-life, Democrats are pro-choice

Democrats support homosexual marriage, Republicans don't

Republicans are for limited government, Democrats believe in use of government power for social/civil reform

Democrats are for animal rights, Republicans are for humane treatment of animals but not animal rights

Republicans believe tax cuts help the economy, Democrats believe in higher taxes for the rich and welfare for the poor to "level the playing field"

Democrats believe criminals should be rehabilitated, Republicans believe criminals should be punished

Republicans support capital punishment, Democrats don't

Democrats support environmental programs, Republicans are largely skeptical of environmentalism

Republicans stress personal responsibility for taking care of yourself in terms of health care and retirement, Democrats support government programs for health care and retirement

Democrats support Affirmative Action, Republicans believe Affirmative Action is another form of discrimination and should be outlawed

    Does that help a little?

  11. You could always declare yourself Independent.  The only down side is you don't get to vote in primary elections.

If you lean to the liberal side of issues, you are probably more of a Democrat.

If you tend to be pretty conservative, you're probably more of a Republican.

Democrats tend to center on social, environmental and education issues.

Republicans tend to be more concerned with fiscal, economic and military policy.

You're not dumb, simply inexperienced, and nobody's really all one way or the other unless they are a real extremist....

  12. There is nothing wrong with liking parts of both parties' platforms.

At their extremes, both the Republican and Democratic parties can take onerous positions.

If I were you, I'd relax and stay an independent. Maybe as you age or read more policy positions, you'll eventually find a home with the Donkeys or the Elephants.
