Am I The Only One Who Sees The Rationality in Choosing Governor Palin As the GOP VP Nominee?

Yes, she's a woman. Yes, she has executive experience.

But, surely there were conservative Republican female Governors on the mainland who could have been chosen instead. What the heck does an Alaska Governor have in common with Pennsylvanians or Minnesotans. She might's swing Canada, but she won't swing those states that are needed for McCain to win this contest. (By the way, Senator Biden is an expert debater. I cannot see her doing the GOP justice in the debate against him).

  1. NO - I think it was an extremely irrational move on his part.....he has basically given the election to Obama and Biden!!

  2. I think this was a poor choice for several reasons.  First she is being investigated for abuse of power.  Second  she brings no electoral votes to the table.  Third her record on the economy is weak. Job growth is at a ten year low in Alaska under her watch.  Economy is the biggest issue this year.  Finally  Hillery voters wont like this woman because her stance on abortion and other issues. Hillery supporters  will be insulted that Mccain assumed they just wanted a woman.  She will get crushed in a debate.   Obama supporters are pretty happy about this choice as am I.

  3. No, McCain has discovered a jewel for change and reform of a sick, corrupt government in washington d.c. waste, corruption, inaction, debt, war all this by both parties and something mccain has been raging about for years. natural to choose some kindred spirits.

  4. Have you never heard the saying; "never underestimate the powers of a woman"?

  5. I think she is a great choice, conservative and far removed from the Washington viper pit. McCain is the one who is really doing things differently not just talking about it. Palin has core values, if she sticks to these, Biden will look like the liberal loon that he is no matter how pretty he talks.

  6. I think the democraps are scared to death that thier house of cards is coming down.

  7. One thing you're missing is the cohesiveness of westerners.  She will help in states like Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico.  Out here in the west, we are kind of tired of having some easterner treat us like second class citizens.

Aside from that, though, I think she was a poor choice.  The level of her experience is below that of a CEO of any decent sized organization.

  8. She has a lot of things in common with the conservative Republican base that hasn't been too thrilled with McCain.

The first response of the Obama campaign, upon hearing of her addition to the ticket, was to criticize her political background.  Mayor of a small town?  Couple that with her NRA membership and anti-abortion stance, and she could be the poster girl for the "bitter Americans clinging to their guns and religion".  If played right, that could easily influence a lot of rural areas.  Maybe Obama shouldn't have gone to that San Francisco fundraiser.

Plus, there's the criticism by the Obama campaign that she has no foreign policy experience.  Now, that was really funny... "Hey!  Your V.P. pick is no more experienced than our Presidential nominee!"

She has a record of bucking the party, too, when she thought it was needed.  It's not every candidate who can defeat an incumbent governor of their own party in a primary, and then defeat a former governor in the general election.

Yes, I know she has some drawbacks, too... but so would any candidate.  And Biden probably will be able to easily beat her in a debate (though... he'll have to be careful there, or risk being seen as a bully), but she'll really just need to make a good showing, IMO.

  9. maybe she will charme the pants of senator Biden.

  10. What does a Governor of Pennsylvania have in common with Tennessee residents?  What does the Governor of Tennessee have in common with Nevada voters?  That argument is moot.  All states are different and have different issues and problems.  What Palin does have in common with all voters is that she believes in many of the same values as most other Americans, and definitely breaks the mold of the other politicians running.

  11. I thought this campaign started out to just be a beauty contest and this just proves it.

  12. I personally think it was a great choice. She is an up and comer in the party. She is a true conservative republican that will stand toe to toe with anyone who is a bit shady. She has more executive experience than Obama does. I was not a strong McCain supporter but I know that this choice has sealed my vote and many others for the republicans.

  13. That will be a fun debate to watch! I can't wait until the Presidential and Vice Presidential debates start......entertaining thought!

  14. Palin has two years gubernatorial experience.  She was elected in 2006, and before that she was a mayor of a town of 9,000... oh and let's not forget she came in second for miss alaska... i guess that makes john mccain the beauty queen.  Great pick McCain.  For all the c**p you give Obama for not having experience... you should have had a higher GPA... graduating 894th in a class of 899.  Obama blows you out of the water in intelligence and judgment.

  15. your missing the point I,m a independent and I'm sick of the samo samo so it's a breath of fresh air to see someone that isn't from the devil ring in d.c. and it also tells you that McCain wants whats right for us and not some lie to make us vote for them because of the promises they will not keep so even if McCain losses he will have a clear Conscience

  16. i'm embarrassed for the GOP.  if this were 4 years ago, before barack, before hillary, palin would barely get a seat at the convention let alone on the ticket.

  17. She is better looking than Kay Bailey Hutchinson.  I rather thought McNuts would pick Ann Coulter.

  18. I've never heard of her, but the more I learn about her the more impressed I am with her. She seems like a fast learner, doesn't put up with c**p, is highly intellingent, strong, has values like mine pretty much. I think she would be great and will vote for them.

  19. She ran against a corrupt Republican administration in Alaska. She defeated the crooks in her own party and cleaned things up. Now that's a change you can believe in.

  20. Freudian slip there?

  21. Alaska has Oil. she has defeated incumbents. incumbets have hard seats to get. she is a maverick. she thinks for herself. she brings people together. she's strong on consertive values. she has a son in the army. she has an 88% approval rating. She went back to Work 3 days after SHE gave birth. she lowers taxes for her state.  she reengerizes the republican PARTY. I LIKE HER, HOPED he was going pick her. Now VOTING FOR HER! not for MCCAIN  but her. they are now a package deal.

  22. she is pro-life, she hunts, she is a member of the NRA, she has 5 kids, she is a "good christian woman" all things the republicans are using to get the "average" (especially rural) women to vote for them.

yet they don't want these same women to get healthcare or our public schools to get decent teachers and decent funding!

    it's her image!

    i see right through it!!

  23. I agree..if you meant irrationality.

    She has little experience.

She doesn't know the job of a VP, anyway.

    This is just sad.

  24. Go look at her photo compared to those other women you mention. It's very apparent as those why they chose she.

  25. There is nothing rational in picking a VP nominee who doesn't even know what a VP does.

SEE/HEAR HER IN HER OWN WORDS:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pak-rH0dC...

(her V.P. comments are toward the end of the video)

  26. No, I do, and there is plenty of news coverage going both ways. I heard an interview with her from June and she sounded intelligent. He is trying to get the female vote I think. She did call out the way for being about the energy crisis like it is. I don't think McCain has mich of a chance. It was a last ditch effort.

  27. LOL  you  are very  funy

    peace

  28. I agree. I think it's an enormous gamble. It neutralizes his strong argument against Obama about his experience, it quit possibly to disenfranchise a lot of core republicans who were hoping for their own party unity through Romney, and it has no strategic leverage, like shoring up Florida, Indiana, or even Pennsylvania. It will only work if it can brings in so many previously uninterested women that it can swing a state, and I'd be very surprised if it could. Plus, we need to assume that Hillary Clinton will remain a factor as a strong democratic surrogate against this lady... does McCain really think Clinton will silently let Palin stand unchallenged?

  29. From the c**p that was spewing out of Obama's mouth last night, it looks like McCain is the agent of change.  Obama's speech was the SOS.  Blah, blah, blah, I promise, blah, blah, blah.  BS.  Biden is an expert master debater not debater.  She is going to teach him a lesson in debating.  Biden is really going to help in pulling the South--NOT!

  30. Wow, I thought Alaska was attached to the mainland. My globe must be screwed up. What does she have in common with Texas, Georgia or BFE? Values, family, pride in America, dislike of pork-barrel attachments to bills, dislike of corrupt, long-term politicians. I am looking forward to Biden/Palin debates. He is a hothead, loses temper if feels intelligence challenged. She is a Mom....used to having her intelligence challenged. I think it will be very interesting.
