So ever since I was younger I've wanted to start figure skating, I think I now want to start (I've never been skating before). But my question is, could I ever go to the Olympics or something if I start seriously figure skating? I'm 13 years old (turning 14) b.t.w. I've always loved the sport and would really like to start doing it. Please feel free to add anything!!

Thanks!

  1. It depends if you have natural talent or not:) If you struggle a lot with skating it would be hard for you since it is later in life:D Younger kids have it easier with new sports, but if you try it and aren't all that bad, you may have a chance with competitions that are higher up there.

  2. Thats a good age to start at. I started at 12. And i am in freestyle 3. When your older you move up the levels quickly. You just need to be determined and you have to be there skating ever chance you get.

  3. It's never too late to start skating!  There are people much much older than you who are just starting out.  Is it possible to go to the Olympics, I guess, but is it likely starting later in life?  No.  It takes a long time and more than just an ability to jump and spin to get to that point, which is why there is such a small group of skaters who even make it to that level.

But don't let that hold you back!  At 13, there are still plenty of opportunities for you in skating.  You can still become a competitive skater.  The area of competition keeps growing.  There are competitions for skaters enrolled in a group lesson program (basic skills competitions).  Skaters who haven't even made it up to their first jumps can still be a part of those competitions.  Even adult skaters have their own tests and competitions....even their own Nationals competition in the US.  So there are still tons of things you can do in skating, even if you start "late."  I started at 12 and have participated in plenty of skating, coaching, shows, competitions and other cool things I wouldn't have done if I weren't skating (travel, meeting famous skaters).

    Good luck!

  4. 12 in a half (i'll be 13 in Nov.) I don't think you are too old to go to the olympics someday. Maybe the 2018 one? I'm starting this year too :) I'm trying my best to eat healthy and be strong and flexible so I can do better. I don't think you are too old but you have to practice a lot on and off ice.

  5. Yes, you could. I started at 12 and am pretty good now (13). What I would do is get yourself once a week lessons. Do that for a year. If you really LOVE it, look into a personal trainer to meet with you maybe 3 times a week. That way you can compete. As you get more and more competitive, you can add more ice time

  6. Its NEVER too late, if you really want to start then go for it! and yes if you keep practacing then you will be able to enter the olimpics!

    hope i helped!

    good luck!

  7. You wouldnt be able to compete but you can still do exhibitions and stuff like that. There are 10 year olds who have all their doubles and I am 11 and I have half of my triples. You can do it but you just wont compete, or you will compete in a really low level with little kids. But feel free to start skating because it is an awesome sport!!!!!

And BTW. I guarantee that you wont go to the Olympics. Olympic skaters start when they are like......2 or 3!!!!!!

  8. I've been skating for two years and I've already learned my axle- you could be competing in the olympics when you're in college- you have a lot of time ahead of you. And if you start skating a lot, you may be able to go to the Junior Olympics in a few years. Plus, you're never too old to start skating.

  9. I don't think so...

  10. Everyones always like bla bla no you cant, yes it isnt realistic, and you dont have a good chance of going to the olympics. HOWEVER! Dont let anyones negative comments stop you train hard and on and off ice. Theres an olympic paired skaters that are 32 years of age and 35 years of age, you can compete at any age, it just depends if your good enough. So dont give up hope, practice practice and practice all the time. If you want something so bad anythings possible.

  11. thats a little late to try to go to the olympics

  12. no.

there is a one in a billion chance that you will make it to senior level (olympics)

but that doesnt mean you cant skate. skating is so much fun! you can skate recreationally or you can even compete in competitions! competitions can be little to big! no matter what your level is.

but of course, figure skating is all what you put into it. no one goes to the olympics on "talent" its all hard work like stretching and pushing your limits on and off the ice.

you dont have to work as hard. do what you want to do comfortably.

  13. I think that's around the perfect age to start since you will be older and able to control yourself more rather than starting at age 6 or something. If you get really good at it and practice literally every single day, you would probably be real close to going to the Olympics!

    Good luck!!!!

  14. No, but its best to start at age 6-7. Still who cares? If its your talent, go for it. You never know, your gonna be pro.

  15. sorry, you won't go to the Olympics or any national competitions. but it's not too late to start skating for fun and doing local competitions. i would recommend going for it!!

know that you'll never be an elite skater. but the vast majority of skaters, even those who started at age 2 and trained all their lives, aren't either. there's more to skating than what you see on TV.

  16. Hey i STARted just last year ! I love IT !!! if you train and work hard enough sure you can go to the olympics, but it takes a lot of dedication and heart! haha good luck!

  17. Let's go straight to the point.

No. On a scale of 1-10 that would be a 2.

  18. I started skating 2 ( I was 12 )years ago, and I've gotten pretty good.  So it's never too late.  Chances are you won't make it to the Olympics Because once you 18 your your pretty much stuck ( is what my coach said).  I recommend starting.  It's the most amazing feeling I've ever had, When your on the ice your free!  If you work really hard you could have all you single jumps in a year ( maybe still be working on your axle).  You just have to not be afraid, skate fast ( it will be a lot easier and will hurt less when you fall ), and be prepared for a sore bum/sore muscle's.   Good luck,  the worst that will happen is you hate it and quit!  I hope helped you!

  19. If you don't believe in yourself then you are already beat pretty much.

  20. no. you wuld need a GOOD trainer though. Michael Phelps started at 7 and that probably means most people start at the age

  21. No, you could never go to the olympics srry. You probably would never even be able to get competitive. :[ But you could do it on the side for fun i guess.
