I was adopted by US Americans. I was brought here as a small child and had a perm resident status. My father was in the military. During time he filed for my US Citzenship, but we moved before we could get any of the paperwork back. I still have my perm resident card. I do have a D.L and a SS# card. I have worked for Govt agencies and have had background checks on me as well. I have filed taxes as well. I even have went to a INS Agency to find out what I would have to do. And had all my paperwork with me. ( Parents B.C , my adoption papers, passports, my B.C, and reciepts from paperwork previously filed) But I was not aloud to talk to any INS agent at all. First thing they asked for was for a Passport >< I dont ahve one cause i been here for at that time 18 yrs, I am 30 now. And my perm res card is not Green. Its pale pinkish and has no exp. date. Any suggestions?

  1. You are a Citizen. You have a SS number if you were not a citizen you wouldn't have one or the permenent resident card. And those cards are pinkish. There is nothing left for you to do. Your a citizen!

  2. what you might need is hire an immigration lawyer.they might be able to help you...

  3. If you were adopted by US citizens and you have your own s.s. number and license, I would say you are a citizen. You may want to go see a lawyer about this to clarify.

  4. You can get a dl, ssn, file taxes and work without being a citizen---you just have to be a permanent resident. So, we can establish that you are at least a permanent resident. As to whether or not you are a citizen I don't know.

Maybe you should try to apply for a passport---only citizens can get one---and see if you are accepted or denied. This will tell you if you have citizenship or not. Good Luck.

Also, are you a registered voter??? Only citizens can register to vote. Try that.

  5. Green Card refers to the official card issued by the US government to lawful permanent residents (immigrants) as evidence of their authorization to live and work in the United States. It is officially called Form I-551, the Permanent Resident Card (formerly known as the Alien Registration Receipt Card). It is commonly called the Green Card not because of its current color, but because of the original color of the card many years ago...

As far as being a citizen, I'm not quite sure. Just cuz you have a social and DL doesn't make you a citizen. You are for sure a permant residence. I would look into further to verify. Talk to an educated lawyer.
