Question:

Am I a Jew?

I seriously think I might be a Jew, I have a jewish-like last name, everyone in my family is a Doctor, I'm bad at sports, and at 25 I poured my life savings into commercial real estate.

The family tree on my Dad's side (where the last name comes from) stops at my Grand dad.

How can I find out?

  1. none of that has anything to do with being a jew. maybe like your great great great great great grandma was jewish... but that doesnt make you really jewish now.

  2. Google your last name and look for family tree history , i googled mine , and it seemed pretty accurate.

  3. Orthodox and Conservative Judaism defines a Jew by the mother, not the father. They state they get the nation from the mother and the tribe from the father.  If they don't have a Jewish father, they belong to the tribe of the nearest male relative on the mother's side of the family. Whereas if they don't have a Jewish mother, they aren't Jewish.

    Reform Judaism defines it differently.

  4. Look up your local chapter of Aryan Nation Brotherhood, American n**i Party, Aparthied International, or any other white supremacist group that's handy. Try to join them -  if they kill you, you might be Jewish

  5. Being Jewish is a religion, not an ethnicity.  Everything that you've mentioned is just bad stereotypes.

  6. google it

  7. ask your family

  8. None of that makes you a jew.

But if you wanted to find out if you have jewish heritage, might try asking some family members first.

If that doesn't work, and your relatives on your father's father's side came through Ellis Island, you might be able to check the ship manifest. If they immigrated as jews they would occasionally declare their nationality as "Hebrew" on the manifests.

  9. Try to ask your family. You can also search the internet.

  10. Ancestry.com I traced my relatives all the way to the plantation

  11. You may not be a jew but it's evident you're ignorant as h**l.

Being Jewish is not a nationality, nor does it come with side effects (may cause family members to become interested in health fields and real estate).

Typically, children take the religion of their mother. IF you're mother follows the teachings of the Torah and considers herself to be Jewish then you are, typically, considered to be Jewish as well. Do you yourself follow the teachings of Judaism? No? Then you're not Jewish.

    Grow up you ignorant pig.

  12. umm i dont think you are, but if your really curious go on one of those websites that shows you your family tree. Its kinda cool.

  13. How about face features? You can ask your family.

  14. According to Jewish tradition, being Jewish passes from your mother's side of the family. Is she Jewish? Is her mother Jewish? That's how to tell if you are traditionally Jewish.

Now let's see about your stereotypes. Most of the doctors in the group I go to are from India, so maybe your Indian. The biggest real estate developer in this area is Japanese. Maybe you're Japanese. If not, you could convert. Bad at sports? Maybe you are Jewish after all. I mean look at Hank Greenburg, Sean Greene and Sandy Koufax. Now, there's your tip off right there.

  15. If you would come off of about 169 dollars to take a DNA test from Familytree.com, you could find out for sure.  Go to the website and read up on it.  But if you came off that kind of money just to find out, then it might prove that you aren't. lol.

Just kidding! , since you are enjoying the stereotypes too.

I did my DNA and joined the Jewish DNA group, well, one of them.  I haven't proven anything yet, but I might.

By the way, those stereotypes might show that you are g*y. lol.

Seriously though, go to FamilytreeDNA and take the test. It doesn't hurt. It's a saliva from the cheek type of test.  The link is provided below.  You'll get DNA matches from other people who are closely matched to you and you can contact them.  Once you've done that, you'll find out lots about where you came from and what your family genetic history is.

And to those who say it's just a religion, well, everyone knows that isn't totally true.  Though Judaism IS a religion, it is a tight one where not a lot of outside marrying has occured over time.  So, many people can findo out if they at least have some Jewish genetic makeup, or blood, if you wish.

  16. oh wow! well if you're not a jew, you're at least a walking cliché - good luck breaking out of it

  17. nope, but ancestry wise yes.

  18. lol well i hope you're just having a joke with all these corny stereotypes... but seriously, the Jewish faith is passed down from the mother, at least that is what I heard.

It is possible that you have Jewish ancestry on your father's side, which may be interesting for you to find out, though that doesn't make you a Jew.

I believe it is possible to convert to Judaism. You would need to ask a Rabbi or someone knowledgable about how to do this.

    God bless.
