Am I a Michigan State Resident if i was born in michigan?

I was born in Kalamazoo,Mi. I lived there for a year and then i moved out due to my fathers job. Now i want to go to Michigan State University. Am i eligible for In-State resident fees? If not what can i do.

  1. No you can not be considered in state. You are a resident of the state where your parents live and pay taxes only.


  2. resident status is an income tax term, it requires the person to be living for some minimum period(s) of time . The law differs from country to country.

  3. Usually with residents, it's that you have lived in that state for the past number of years. If you have a parent that lives in that state then you'll probably be able to get away with saying that that is your permant resident. You usually have to show proof of residency though. Check the schools website and it should say specifically, that a resident is defined as this.
