Am I a UK National?

I'm trying to fill in my student finance form and one of the questions says "Are you a UK national?" I was born in England... my family is English etc but my mum thinks a UK national is when someone is born over sea's and comes here.. or is of another nationality but was born here.

I'm really confused but I don't want to fill all this in wrong - please please help :)

  5. You're a national. Though the term in rarely used with people who currently reside in their country of citizenship, "national" simply means "a citizen or subject of a particular nation who is entitled to its protection".
