Question:

Am I a bad person? Vegetarian vs. semi veggie (kinda)?

I recently moved in with a vegetarian, who is on a crusade against meet eaters.

Now, I stopped eating red meat and chicken a few weeks before, but I still eat fish. Love fish, so good for you.

Any who I buy farmed fish as I study Freshwater & Marine Biology and know a lot about fish stocks and that, but every time I go to eat I have a fan fair of humming and hawing BECAUSE THEY SHOULD BE FREE!!! Blaade Blaade Blah

We eventually had an argument where I told him I only stopped eating red meat because its hard for me metabolize and drains my energy and that I would eat anything that was slaughtered if it is good for me) and that I don't care about the animals! (Which is kind of true, to a lesser extent) I don't like battery chicken and that stuff.

Any way he said I was a "bad person" and hasn't talked to me since, I know my motives are self driven but that doesn't make me a bad person, does it?

  1. you are not a bad person. vegetarians who insult others take themselves way too seriously considering all the poverished countries that wish they could have a decent fish meal

  2. i do not understand this question.  i must be having a bad day.

  3. You are not a bad person!! If you are not feeling well because you do not have enough protein, eat meat! I am sick & tired of the veggies or vegans thinking they are better people just because they do not eat meat! But, you should have some respect for your friend as he should for you. My question for veggies or vegans is, Do you think that meat eating animal that killed for his supper feels guilty?

  4. There is not one true definition of a bad person.

Everyone has their own beliefs on the definition of a bad person. Your friend is so against killing animals that he became a vegetarian. So to him, this is a passionate subject for him.

From now on, just keep your slaughtering comments to yourself, even though that is how you feel.

Sometimes we have to not say everything on our minds when dealing with people who are VERY passionate about a topic. These types of people only see one side is correct and WILL NOT, whether you have a point or not, listen to you.

So to answer your question: No you are not a bad person by my definition. And I am sure your roommate doesn't think so either. He was just upset. If he really thought that of you, he wouldn't live with you.

  5. I think you should find a new roommate... Move as soon as you can.

You are not a bad person.   However, you will get no peace in your current living arrangement.

  6. I think you could have been more tactful during the course of your argument with him. Having said that, he should respect your right to eat what you want to. You didn't try to force him to change his vegetarian diet after you moved in with him. If he refuses to respect  your decision to eat fish (or whatever kind of meat you want), then I don't think he's worth your time, truth be told.

  7. you are not a bad person.  Nobody deserves to be treated like that.  Stick to your guns.
