My wedding is May of 2009. 2 of my 3 flower girls have already purchased their dress. I asked them to get it early because I knew that it might be discontinued. The dress was $20.00 and so buying it early was a good idea. Now I am stuck trying to find this dress online for the last girl(not a huge problem because finding a white chiffon sundress for a five year old should be cake if I wait till next easter). Because of this I am asking my bridesmaids to purchase their dress by the end of September. In my mind this is a fair time frame. it will take about 16 weeks for it to be ready so thats february, then there are alterations. Also I don't want the dress to be discontinued and end up having to find a matching a brides maids dress in the right color. All the girls WANT to be [art of the wedding, and the dress $155.00, and They picked it out NOT ME. I am totally cool with that because I picked the color, and I want them to be comfortable. so am I being to pushy asking for them to purchase their dress this soon?

  1. If your bridesmaids dresses are all the same color, you're going to want to order them all at the same time anyway, so that the dresses are cut from the same color lot of fabric--namely the same bolt of fabric.  Color lots vary from bolt to bolt, sometimes noticeably.  So, you will have to order them all at the same time anyway, so no, you're not being pushy or unreasonable here.  Usually the store will ask for a deposit to order them (usually 1/2 or 2/3) and then you can pay the balance when you pick up the dresses.

  2. I think you are being reasonable.

  3. I had my girls purchase their dresses about a week after we finalized the dress. The wedding isn't until next year. You're more fair then I was and I didn't think that I was being unfair!

  4. I think you are being very fare. That is only 8 months away. My concern is will the flower girls dresses still fit them in 8 months? kids grow fast.

  5. Not at all.  You are smart to do it that way.  You aren't being a bridezilla at all and the price is very fair.  You should order early.  I order as early as you did also and I am glad that I did because the dresses only came in a few weeks before.  Don't put off til tomorrow what can be done today.  Have an awesome wedding.  I got married in May and I had beautiful weather.  It is a wonderful months to get married.  It is great that you are thinking ahead.  Saving everything till the last minute would overwhelm you.  You sound very organized and give yourself a long engagement will help you to relax and not get overwhelmed.  You go girl.

  6. I think that is more than reasonable.  I am having my girls get theirs in December, 7 months before the wedding!  (Does that mean I am a bridezilla?  Uh-oh)   The people at the store said it could take about 4-5 months to get the dresses in so it's smart to get them early.  Plus, there is the definite possiblity that the dresses could be discontinued.  Just for that reason I have been thinking about getting the dresses earlier!
