Question:

Am I a heartless person?

My great grandfather (who I never met or talked to) who lives in China died yesterday, and my parents want me to attend his funeral in a week. However, that's also when my first year of high school starts, and I really don't want to have to miss the important first week of school.

Should I be trying to convince my parents to let me not go, or am I just a heartless freak?

  1. Well, he is your grandfather, and you do have 3 more "important weeks of school" left, soooo i would go the funeral. I wouldn't try to convince your parents because that would most likely hurt their feelings. From what i remember, i don't think i really did anything important during the first week. except go over class procedures and stufff..................

But if you were to have a funeral, wouldn't you want all of your family members there? even the ones you haven't met?

but remember, this is just my opinion

  2. Well the bigger issue for them is probably what to do with you as far as a living arrangement while they are gone.  I see no problem with you not wanting to go, since you never even knew him.  Give it a shot, ask if you can stay home or maybe at a friends house so you don't have to miss school.

  3. Just go there are plenty more weeks of school. Although you didn't know him you should go to pay your respects if it wasn't for him then you you wouldn't be here, you've got at least that to thank him for. Anyway you may hurt your parents feelings.
