Question:

Am I a hypocrite for not believing?

I have read the bible several times, and took a World Religion college course to further my studies. I did so with an open mind and have a large family of religious influence. However as a critical thinker and an intelligent person with an IQ considered genius. I cannot deny the science. Organized religions are false, end of discussion. I am so frustrated that most of the people I encounter seem completely oblivious to reality. That being said I now have a child who just started school. Last week I found myself buying a children's bible and reading the stories to her every night, and will never denounce religion or try to convince her to think like I do. I want her to study religion just as I did and make her own decision without my influence. Am I a hypocrite?

  1. I can't say if you are a hypocrite but you definetly are not saved. If you believe science dominates all, why don't you define what "nothing" is and try to create what you define as "something" out of it? Can you use science to explain yet how the subatomic particles of atoms are created and then proceed to create them yourself out of "nothing"?

  2. no, i think you are open-minded , you have your believes and no one can say what you should believe.

and with your child, i think you should not learn her these things so soon, she still does not understand very well these things....

just my opinion, i`m sure you are a good father and want the best for your child....

  3. No you don't have a choice to do anything else to a small child.

  4. "However as a critical thinker and an intelligent person with an IQ considered genius. I cannot deny the science." <---Stopped reading there. Holier-than-thou attitudes turn me off, sorry.

Ok, so I read more. "I am so frustrated that most of the people I encounter seem completely oblivious to reality."

How do you define reality? Is it what _you_ consider reality? As far as I know, there is no one definite reality defined by anyone. <---Same question to you, Myth.

  5. Of course not; you're simply in touch with reality.

  6. Nope, your not a hypocrite at all.

You just found your own Truth through your study.

though your truth isn't my truth I respect it.

    Do you man!!!

  7. No, you're not a hypocrite.

You're a hypocrite only if you say one thing and do another, like if you say you're a believer, but you really aren't, or vice-versa.  Letting your daughter make up her own mind even if you don't believe is not hypocritical.

    .

  8. There is no evidence to support the God Hypothesis ( which is failed) , so by Logical default , you should not believe .

I suggest you to read " God - the Failed Hypothesis " and " The God Delusion"

  9. You say you had an open mind, but what you need is an open heart, what I mean by that is, in your heart you must really want to know the truth about Christianity....Its not something that you can discern with your mind, The Word of God is spirit and you must learn it by way of your heart, mean your spirit man...But in your case i believe you are letting your education, the fact that you have a high IQ get in the way of your receiving Revelation knowledge, Understand this, God's ways is higher than man's ways and what is thought of as wisdom to the world is as foolish to God...The fact that you bought a Bible for your child tells me that in you heart you know that God is real but your education stands int he way...Set your education aside and open you heart ant let that little of your SHINE.........

  10. Not a hypocrite at all.  I think it's great what you are doing. You are exposing her to it and allowing her to make her own mind up about what she believes.  You are not pushing it on her nor are you trying to steer her in any direction.

  11. it sounds like u r  under the conviction of the holy spirit - our belief is based on faith and we seek god with the eyes of our hearts not just our eyes -i cannot deny he is real after being a witness to many healings  that a doctor could not heal and casting out demons that had people so bond they could not function on their own and now live a productive life- and it was all done by the power of god working through those who prayed- u r to be comended though for teaching your child -that is what the lord expects of a parent- god holds us responsible for that- blessings to u and yours

  12. I agree your doing the right thing. Something must be said about your values, because most nonbelievers would not do that.

You recognize that exposure to Biblical truths is good. Biblical teachings are righteous. Albert Einstein (also considered genius) thought so.

  13. I envy you.  I have been a believer of Christ for many years but have never really attended a bible course.  The difference between you and me is that I read the bible and believed, but you read and took a bible course only to further your studies and increasing your knowledge.

You knew something good about being a Christian but lack the faith for becoming one.  What is it that holding you back?  But one thing for sure, that does not make you a hypocrite.

  14. Taking a course in religion and reading a Bible doesn't mean you are a Christian. You need to ask Jesus into your heart, to cleanse you from your sin and ask Him to be your personal Lord and Savior.

It is good that you read the Bible to your little girl. But choosing to follow Christ is up to the individual. It's a decision that the heart makes. It's not something that you are raised to be.

Science if fascinating, but it won't fill up that whole in your heart that only God can fill.

  15. Jesus called the Pharisees hypocrites because the Pharisees preached the word and would tell people what they should be doing, but they werent doing it themselves. How in the world did you go to a religion college and not now what a hypocrite is?

  16. It can be two fold but I commend you on not forcing what you believe on your child.  Your child should have the right to learn about religion and decide what he/she believe.  Good decision.  As for you being a hypocrite, nah, you aren't.  You aren't teaching your child what you believe but giving him/her the opportunity to learn and decide for themselves and I have to respect that.

  17. no you are not.  i consider myself wiccan, but for obvious reasons, do not think it would be smart to teach this to my 4,5, and 7 year old.  they go to catholic church with their grandma, even tho, i to agree that organized religion is chummy.  But they need religion in their lives, and when they get older, they can make that decision for theirself.  In the meantime, i want them to have a few options to explore should they want too.

  18. You are not a hypocrite.  Even though there are things you disagree with, I think you also recognize that there is peace that goes along with believing. Don't we all want our children to have that peace?  The day is going to come when she enters a high school and will be taught science and all of the things you believe in that subject. It's going to break your heart when she starts to learn these things. I think you have hope in God. I think you recognize the peace and the love that having that beliefs can bring to a person. As a parent myself sending my children off to school to mingle with this great big sometimes cruel and scary world, I am so thankful that the belief in God was taught to me. Knowing that he is watching over my children, giving them strength throughout their day and loving them even when they mess up is a peace that I consider a true gift!  And I think you will too.

  19. Your child must be the free will. I see you are a great father, and you want to know a God who make sense, tell Him to your child and you will discover a new God. The science don't give love, hope and peace, God is more from science.

    God bless you.

  20. No, you're not a hypocrite.

  21. No you're doing a good idea.  Sometimes it takes education to make someone open their minds to things.
