Question:

Am I a lone voice crying in the wilderness, or are there other people out there not obsessed with sport on TV?

This summer has been awful. First there was the EM, then Wimbledon, when the BBC kept moving programmed transmissions from BBC 1 to BBC 2 and vice versa. Now it's the Olympics. No Breakfast TV. If I want to watch TV news, I switch to al Jazeera.

  1. even im not a sports fan but surely for patriotic reasons at least try the olympics those poor kids are sweating their lives away for your country try and show some enthusiasm if you dont celebrate anyone noones gonna celebrate you think karma why do you want to see the latest gory news for?

  2. Sport is like s*x and cooking; it is for doing, not for watching on television.

  3. I was just feeling sheepish at not following the Olympics because I just can't be bothered to. Perhaps it's because the focus on my side of the pond is all on North American athletes, which is reasonable enough with North America providing our TV broadcasts. I must admit to following the British tradition of watching Wimbledon, but was badly let down by the Montreal channel on which I was indulging this habit, which switched to English in the middle of the Women's Finals and resolutely showed old soap operas instead. We watch the football on a Hispanic channel because of the glorious way in which they shout: "GOOOOOOooooool!" twice over every time someone scores. Soon we shall be treated to that great quadrennial sporting event: the US Presidential election. It is really difficult to escape that, but I'll do my best.

  4. Yeah, and it's so annoying when they cancel programmes for a week because of sports, so you have to wait another week for the next part of the programme, because it always just happens to be a two-parter!

  5. The BBC should have a sports channel and then they can move each other around the schedules.

  6. I enjoy sports of all kinds on my television set. I personally prefer to go in person to be totally involved with sports that are 'local' in nature. I wish you the fullest pleasure in all sports that you find entertaining. Peace!!!

  7. I could care less about sports. For the most part they are boys and men getting paid obscene amounts of money to PLAY A GAME. Sure, pay them but their salaries are ridiculous.

I cannot understand mens obsession with sitting on their butts for hours a day, watching games and memorizing statistics. I'd prefer to use my time more constructively. Don't get me wrong...they do it for the enjoyment but sometimes it gets carried away. For instance, when the Dale Earnhardt died, it was like the whole country went into mourning. For what? He drove a car. I'm not putting down his death as a man but it's not like he was a saint or worked at a shelter for the homeless for 20 years.

The deification of sports figures is laughable and saddening.

  8. Sport is important, its courses nations as well as countries, towns, cities and continents to come together. Stop moaning about it, if you don’t like watching sport then the answer is simple, DON’T WATCH IT. And if all you care about is what’s on the box it shows you don’t get out much, bless as if anyone cares.

  9. Ive got to admit i hate sport with a passion, and the way they just shuffle or cancel programmes to make room for it!!!

  10. Totally agree.

  11. you're not alone, it's everyehere this sport obsession, sidelining far more important things

  12. Sport (especially Saturday afternoons!), soap operas, day time tv and Big Brother....just a few of the many reasons why I cancelled my TV license January this year!  Best decision of 2008 so far.

  13. What is the EM ?

However, no most people would say that there is much less sport on terrestrial TV now as Sky has most of it.
