Am I a s****t? because I laugh at other people's pain?

My teacher right, during the school year, told us she had a miscarriage (she lost her baby in the womb).

And out of nowhere, I duck my head and laughed. Now I don't know, but I wasn't amused at all, in fact, I really felt sorry for her, but for some reason when ever I see people hurt emotionally I start to laugh. And I don't feel the same way inside, so I don't know why I laugh.

Why is that?

  1. I'd have to think it's a emotional way of coping. It's possible you have some type of ADHD or something too. Your not a s****t, a s****t would inflict pain and enjoy seeing them in hurt. Talk with your parents, they'll know whats best for you to do.

  2. it's an indicator of a serious social disorder (which i won't go into here)

have you talked to anyone about it? if not i'd see a counselor. not saying that to be mean either. what you describe is not awkward laughter, combined with the pain thing it points in a different direction.

  3. ur a jerk!!

  4. No since you didn't have the deriving of pleasure, or the tendency to derive pleasure, from cruelty.

  5. just the way you are

    nothing wrong with that

  6. it's alright, lower classes of people usually are this way.  just find friends in the trailer park that have similar interests

  7. it's how you cope with awkward situations, when you really don't know what to say or do.

  8. accually i think a lot of people react this ways to such things. its not becasue they think its funny or they like that the other person is in pain. its just the way that you cope with the news, ur nervous and uncomforable for the person and u just react by laughing..dont worry about it ur perfectly normal and ur a good person! i do the same thing sometimes and i cant hold it back lol

  9. I'm not sure but maybe you just can't relate to them or it's either you think that its only a joke i don't mean that you think that your teacher for example is kidding you, what i mean is i think that your not taking it seriously.

my opinion is try to think about all the misfortunes that happened to you maybe just maybe you will realize how people feel and not laugh at them.

  10. me too

    i dont know why :)

  11. You're not a s****t because you truly felt sorry for her. When I was younger, I sometimes smiled for no reason when i heard something sad. I didn't know why back then. I guess I wasn't mature enough and my empathetic understanding wasn't as deep

edit: btw, i agree with the person who said it is how you cope with awkward situations

  12. your a sadistic person that's who you are lol

  13. i am the same way.

    only God knows.

  14. i think its because you really dont know how to handle the situation but have you had any previous experiences or has anything bad happened to you? youll get some of the answers from there but email me to learn more at mariepalenta@yahoo.com

  15. This is your life and it's ending one minute at a time.

  16. Laughter is a way you cope with awkward situations.

Sometimes when I'm very sad like bawling my eyes out,

I just start laughing. I don't know why, but I just do.

It's a reflex your body has and it's activated during awkward, sad or tense moments. It releases endorphins and tension.

It's just a way you deal with things.

    Nothing wrong with that.

  17. Some people don't want to show remorse, pain, or emotions at all.

Thus, you may do something, such as stay quiet, mumble about irrelevant things, or in your case laugh...to avoid answering/as a nervous reaction because you feel sympathy for her.

Due to society's expectations, people will probably think you are rude so I would find another distraction so that you don't give off this image.

  18. its a defence mechanism that some people get, that protects you from showing your feelings to other and exposing yourself. It not being a s****t, a s****t would laugh about it because its funny.

Over time as your confidence grows and you learn to trust more people it will disappear :)

    have fun

  19. maybe you use laughter as a way to hide your true feelings, kinda like people that crack jokes at the worst times, simply bc they dont know how to deal. it is normal.

  20. no just human hun we all make fun of wot we cant understand

  21. Wow, I didn't know so many people react like this.

You're not a s****t, since you don't enjoy it. It's just probably how you handle situations like that because you don't know how else to. Or some sort of defense mechanism?

I don't know - but it's interesting, and I think you should learn how to control it because other people can definitely misunderstand.
