I am on disability and it is very difficult for me to get paperwork done. I read that George bush signed an act that says if you have not worked for 1 year and are eligible you can apply due to this new act. I need to know the name of the act, and if i am able to apply for unemployment, having lost my job in 2006. Thank you.

  1. The unemployment act goes by your most recent wages earned for the last fiscal year. Regardless if you made $1500.00 at your most recent jobm but $60K at the previous. You earn wages based on the $1500.00. If you did not work, then there is no wage to base a benifit to you. This should mean you are not eligible. I have not heard of this act. Good luck.

  2. No, sorry.  If you haven't worked in the year before you apply (sometimes a shorter time than that even) you aren't eligible.

What you heard about a few months ago is a 13 week extension to the normal 26 week limit on collecting benefits.

  3. You have not worked, so you did not pay into unemployment.  Not eligible.  If you are that disabled then you should be calling the Social Security Office and apply for disability
