Am I able to have twins?

hi there, my husband really wants twins, we dont have any children, and I had a miscarriage 3 months ago. I just heard about clomid tablets... but i dont believe I have problems conceiving, just in specifically conceiving twins because they dont exactly run in the family. My step mother (married to my biological father) was pregnant with twins but miscarried and lost them both, but i dont know if thats close enough to be considered 'in the family'. So what i want to know is, if i go to a doctor and tell them i want twins, will they look at me funny and say "... and what do you want me to do about it?" or will they prescribe me clomid to increase my chances..

btw, I live in Australia and Im 18 years old and healthy.. what do you think??

  1. are you crazy!!!!  wanting a baby at 18!!!!!!!!!

get a life your to young !!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I am not sure if it is healthy to use clomid just to try for twins.  Since you have no fertility issues you may end up with more than you bargained for like sextuplets!

  3. Don't you think you're kind of young to have children?  I think you need some critical thinking skills:

If you aren't related to them by blood, you won't have any 'twins' gene that you consider 'in the family'!  She's you step mother, only related to you by marriage!  Ya, not sure about that thingy never heard of it...ask your doctor don't go by what some random person says, ya.

  4. dear since you are married so dont listen to some saying no kids for sometime. Kids are the beauty of life.as far as twins are concerned; be realistic. there are so many of us who r dying to hv 1 baby, who hate to hv to take medicine for it. whether we agree or not evry medicine has its side effects. besides they effect your hormones & play with ur mood. my sincere advice is that have a child normally. you are young dont play with ur health. Yes you can pray hard to hv twins!

ur step mother's genes hv no role.

  5. Don't know anything about the clomid tablets, that is best discussed with your doctor.  Even people who are related to you through blood [which your step-mom is not} doesn't mean you will have twins.  My grandmother had 2 sets of twins, one of the twins had a set of twins also, and two of her children  [who were not twins] had a set of twins.  No one in my generation has had twins.  And so far none in the next generation either.

  6. I don't think any doctor is going to give you clomid to have twins. They run alot of tests on you to find out if you need clomid or not. They won't just give it to you for the chance of having twins.

  7. No legitimate doctor would prescribe a powerful fertility drug just because you 'want' twins.  Nor would any sensible women take them for that reason.

  8. The only gene that would give an increased chance of producing twins is hyper ovulation - the tendency to release more than one egg during ovulation. However, as the only evidence comes from your step mother (who isn't related by blood), then it's doubtful you have the gene (although you never know). And conceiving twins is usually more due to coincidence than any gene. Conceiving identical twins is never due to hyper ovulation, for example.

I don't know about that drug, but if it's used to stimulate ovulation, then it would cause effects similar to hyper ovulation. However, a doctor is unlikely to help you unless you have major problems conceiving in general.

An other way to increase the chances of twins is to follow a diet of yams and dairy products. A study in 2006 concluded that it could increase the chances of multiple births by 5 times.

Also, if you're on a birth control pill and manage to get pregnant (very unlikely, but it happens), you're more likely to produce twins than not.

You could, of course, wait a few years. Older women are more likely to produce twins than not. However, you're also more likely to develop problems or miscarriage as you grow older, and as you've already been through than once (which I'm sorry to hear), I doubt you're eager to go through it again.

    Good luck.
