I am going to Concorde Career College in San Diego, CA. For those of you who aren't familiar with this school, its a fast-paced school. I can get my associates degree in vocational nursing in 51 weeks WITH NO WAITING LIST. The program cost is $28,000. That includes shots or anything health related (such as TB or other health tests), scrubs/uniforms, books, class costs, etc. I am determined to go to this schools because I can complete my degree fast, and every other place around here has a 3-4 years waiting list to apply for the nursing programs. To get to the question, I just turned 20. and my husband joined the military a year ago. Our incomes combined for 2007 is $22,282. That is what I will be using to fill out financial aid. I've heard you cant go over $20,000. Is that true? And about how much will financial aid pay for that college for me?

  1. You may get a partial Pell Grant but the rest of your "aid" will be in the form of loans from schools like these. There's a reason they have openings when other local programs have waiting lists.

Check carefully to see what jobs recent grads got. Don't take their word for it, talk to former students and the employers named. Also make sure their classes ill transfer widely in case you choose to go on to become a RN.

  2. There is a limit on how much federal grant money you can receive (although I don't know what the limit is). If you are filing with the combined income of $22,000, you will likely qualify for Pell grants. This is assuming that Concorde is a Title IV school, or one that recieves federal funds.

My advice to you is to see what other scholarships you may qualify for in addition to the grants. $28 for a total program is a pretty reasonable deal, if the quality of the education is good.

  3. You should check with FASA although I never heard of the income limit.
