I have decided to use Mozilla Firefox as my web browser. In an effort to free up some space on my hard drive, I wanted to delete Internet Explorer. Can I do that? Or will it cause my entire internet connectivity to fail? How do I delete it? It isnt listed in the control panel under programs.

  1. Removing the IE browser would not free up some space because the said program takes very minimal space.

TO free up your hard drive, determine the programs and applications which you tend to use a lot.  Clear up the temp files and folders using disk utilities available in your system.  Clear the internet browsing cache. This should give you some free space.  Also, try to move some large files (MP3,AVI) to an external hard drive if you got one to free up space in your machine.

  2. Good choice firefox is way faster and secure um go to control panels then go to add/remove panels and it should be there.

  3. Bad idea. IE is really part of the Windows OS. Too many programs use the IE engine for various tasks.

As a matter of fact if you go to control panel -> add or remove programs -> windows components

you will see an IE icon with a check box. But if you look closely, unchecking this really only deletes the shortcuts from the desktop and the start menu, not IE itself.

  4. In XP, you use the normal Windows Add/Remove programs applet but choose Windows Components from the bar at the left.

  5. think u can just go to program files and delete it. doesn't really matter tho i have both but firefox is better. internet explorer doesn't really take up much space anyways. and some stuff requires internet explorer and firefox doesn't work

  6. I think you need to be at least WinXP service pack 2 before it will let you uninstall IE. You can get SP2 by running windows update.
