For the past year I have been on some type of pill either for my anxiety or adhd. For the past 5 months I have been prescribed klonopin and for the past month I have been prescribed adderall. When I wake up in the morning, my first thought is.. what am i going to take today. I don't want to be like that, but I feel like I have no motivation if I don't have something. Does this mean I'm addicted ?? 10 points to best help. Thanks in advance. :)

  1. it sounds like you are, but you can break it. tell someone who can help, a doctor, relative or friend. get a friend or relative to take your pills from you, and when you feel like you really need one, go for a run, or distract yourself in some way. coming off the pills won't be easy, and you will probably go down before you go back up. but you can't take them all your life. see the doctor about how long your prescriptions are, and get some advice. good luck

  2. It does sound like you are slightly addicted but don't be alarmed.

go to the GP that prescribed the pills and tell him your worries and he can help you by giving you a different drug which will ease off all the others slowly hoepfully then getting you back to recovery.

  3. Hi Foxy,

No, that doesn't mean you're addicted.  Addiction is another word for substance dependence, which is a serious problem and means that a person has developed physical dependence on the substance in addition to a pattern of abuse.  Physical dependence is evident in a funny thing called tolerance, which simply occurs when a person needs increasing doses of a substance to achieve the effect formerly obtained with a smaller dose.  Then there is withdrawal, which is characterized by changes in behavior, cognition, and physiology, which then occurs if the person stops taking the substance or reduces the amount taken.

I wouldn't sweat it.  You're taking your prescribed medicine as directed.  You're not abusing or misusing it.  I understand you're afraid of substance dependence.  That's normal.  I've there there.  I used to take Adderall and Dexedrine.  For a long time I felt guilty about taking them, because I was super-aware of their status as controlled substances and profitable street drugs, abusable and popular; I felt guilty even though I was taking then exactly as prescribed.

I know this is a lot, and I hope it's clear.  You won't become addicted unless you allow yourself to.  Get it?  Good!

    * Edit:  This is very important.  Just because you wake up each day and wonder which medication you're going take doesn't mean you addicted.  Clearly, that's absurd.  Don't let others think you have a problem.  Adderall & Xanax are types of medications that we often take as needed, PRN, so many people wake up each day and ask themselves, "Gee, will I take my Adderall today or not?  No, I don't need to.  I have no tests or projects to prepare for."  I used to wake up each day and ask myself that very question.  I was so concerned that I talked to my doctor.  He said, "No, that doesn't mean you addicted.  If you feel you don't need it today, then don't take it."

  4. <> I know what your going through ...It sounds like you may be addicted if the first and last thing you think about is which pill? klonopin is very addictive and your doctor should have let you know that> the best thing to do is NOT totally stop them but to start taking less and see if you can live without them. I don't know your age but if your with parents,,,,maybe talk to them and tell them what you've told us and that will be a start> I can guarantee you that you don't want to become addicted to anything...life is h**l if you do.

    Good Luck

  5. Well the fact that you say that you wake up each day, and think about which one you are going to take, says that "mentally" you are addicted to them, which in your mind.

But the fact that you say,  "Which one you are gonna take that day" leads me to believe that you are not physically addicted to either of them, or you would want to be wanting to take BOTH, every day.

A mental addiction is different then a physical addiction, but both can be bad.

To me it sounds like MENTALLY you feel you have to take one or the other to make it thru the day.  You didnt mention at all, like your body physically craving them.

I feel like maybe you do have an anxiety or adhd problem and you do need the medicine. If that is the case, you can go your WHOLE life, with a prescription, if it helps, and it fixes your problem, and your doctor feels you are doing so much better on the medicine, then the doctor will probably continue giving you the medicine. Meds are prescribed to people for long term use, as well as for short term use.

If you really have anxiety issues, and you dont feel like you have any motivation until after you take the med, do you think that may because the medicine is doing its job, and helping you not to be anxious, and have anxiety. ?  So this could be a good thing...

If you were addicted to either one, i think you would take both, and NOT care...

When a medicine works for us, we do get mentally addicted to it, in a sense, because it works for us, and in return we need it, to cure our illness.

If you are just taking them for fun, to get a high or whatever, and you dont really have medical issues, then YES, by all means it is an addiction. When people stop going by the doctors orders, and just pop a pill when they want, that is an addiction.

But please dont assume you are addicted, if you really have a medical condition, and they are helpin you.

Talk to your doctor, and see what he says..let him know you feel you need to take either med each morning...

Im sure he will tell you to continue taking them as prescribed.

Some pple worry they will get addicted that they go into panic mode.

As long as your taking as prescribed, and its working..continue.

    I hope this helps...
