Question:

Am I allowed to apply for unemployment?

I moved to Canada last September (2007) to be with my fiancee. I waited for my Perm. Resident Visa for almost 7 months... meanwhile I could not legally work in the country. To make a long story short... my fiancee ended up cheating on me. So I left Canada.

I have recently moved back to the States earlier this month and I know it will take a little while to find a job position.

Can I apply for unemployment?

  1. not if you QUIT your job then no..........only if you are let go ....sorry find a job fast! What I mean is, if you quit your job to leave the USA, the you do NOT get unemployment.

  2. UC IS A STATE MANDATED PROGRAM. CHECK WITH THE STATE WHEREI YOU WORKED AND/OR RESIDE. YOU CAN ALWAYS APPLY BUT YOU MAY NOT GET IT. OF COURSE, IF YOU DON'T APPLY, YOU WON'T.

  3. You can apply, of course, but the likelihood of your application being approved is low.  Presumably, you voluntarily left your job in the USA last September, and since you weren't married to the cheating ***** they wouldn't recognize your move as necessary.

  4. Sure, like the US, everything is free in Canada.
