Question:

Am I an artist or a plagiarist?

Ok so not to sound boastful but I have a talent for drawing. Everyone says I do really good sketches. But, here's the catch - i can only do good sketches/drawings if I have the object in front of me, or a photo of it, or another drawing of it. If I try to draw something from my imagination it's a huge flop. So I am only good if I copy something else. Is that bad?

  1. No not at all when you have the things in ron of you its called a 'still life' most people do that rather than draw from memory (although some do draw their own creation)

    So its fine !

(although it's probably pligarism copying soeone, elses work)

    :)

  2. Anything that you draw that is not from an original work is not plagiarism. Any drawing you do from another drawing, etching, painting, sketch etc. can be considered plagiarism. You can take any object, even a photo, and draw it and be fine! You don't ever want any artist coming after you for money because you profited from their original idea!

  3. Artist.

Plagiary , n. - one who takes the thought or writings of others and gives them out as his own, v.t. - to steal from the writings or ideas of another.

Copying art is how many masters worked to improve their skills and why so many students copy the works in the Louvre.
