Question:

Am I an idiot for being a good tipper?

Last night I ordered pizza and it was 15.75. I gave the guy a 20 and told him to keep the change. I had to lie to my mom and told her I gave him 2 bucks for a tip. I think she would have yelled at me for doing that. Hey I like to tip good especially if the food is good and the delivery people are nice.

  1. Na, it makes you a nice guy, especially to the Pizza guy, who has to deal with wear and tear on a vehicle!

    I would appreciate it!

  2. I guess I am an idiot too because I tip around the same amount.  If the pizza is 14 i give 20 bucks and say keep the change also.  Nothing wrong with that.

  3. No, you're not an idiot.  I tend to be a good tipper too.  I recognize how hard food service people work and how little they are paid, and I'm grateful I've never had to do that kind of work.

  4. No.  I always give about five for a pizza.  Maybe more if its a snow storm.  Plus, they will remember you as the good tipper.  Your food will be made well and they will get it to you hot!

  5. no thats nice

  6. You don't tip delivery people as much as you would waiters.

Instead of, say, fifteen percent for average service, it should be closer to half that.

  7. LOL I'm also a good tipper. They (servers) forever remember you :)

Don't be ashamed. You don't eat out everyday and if you feel it was a deserving tip especially for a cheerful, prompt service go ahead everytime.

  8. i think thats fine

but thats to much, and liying is not good!!

  9. You are not "an idiot for being a good tipper". To the contrary, that was really nice to tip good like that.

However, you still should have been honest with your mom.

    Thanks for asking.

  10. Nothing wrong with that. That's very honorable. The economy is terrible so your $20 would have helped this guy with gas alone. I am sure he appreciated it. Anyway, people who work in the food industry are used to people treating them terribly so it's refreshing that they find someone who actually values their hard work. Keep doing what you do! It's your money and this good deed will come back to you.

  11. We tip more than most.  But you also have to mind your own budget.  I had a partner once who used money he didn't have to impress me and the waiters where we ate!  We tip according to amount and kind of service, level of service, and courtesy. . . .never based on the food unless the waiter screwed up!  Good service calls for a good tip. . . getting your pizza on time may not be worth nearly 33%!  Next time $2.50-3.00 might actually be sufficient. . . unless you live in the boonies!

  12. Depending on your moods, brother!
