Question:

Am I at risk for cockroaches?

I live in a brand new, 2 year old house in a development in a really nice area. My family is very clean and so am I...I even take 2 showers a day, at least.

In college I picked up a bad habit from dorm life and I eat at my desk almost every day, in my bedroom. I don't drop any food or anything, and I always clean up , but there have been a few times where I've left my dishes on my desk for like 2 days at a time. Nobody else in my house does this, and my room is on the 2nd floor.

Is it possible for me to attract roaches in this environment?

I am freaking out cuz I just saw a little beetle in my room. It was really slow-moving though...and I don't think it looked quite like a roach...

  1. doubtful.  pay for a monthly or every other month pest service to come and spray your exterior/interior of your house.  good luck.

  2. It depends where you live. I'd assume that if you live in a new house, you'd have screens on your doors and windows. If you don't and live in countries like Australia, flying roaches can fly in at night.

Roaches LOVE plates left on counters and in the sink. I'd suggest that you wash up after your meals. If you don't want to wash up after every meal, you could just leave the dishes for after dinner, thereby only washing up once a day - it's better than 3 times per day!

They're clever and resilient! Don't give them a free meal if you can help it!
