Question:

Am I at risk for doing hookah for the first time w/some mouth sores?

My friends introduced me, sort of pressured me, to hookah smoking. After I did it for my first time in my life, I just remembered that I have some sores and cuts on my lower lip due to me biting my lips while I was having dinner right before. I have flossed, brush my teeth, mouthwashe and put some medicine gel on my mouth where the sores are. Should I be worried about gum/mouth infections and any other health risks?

  1. Most places use new mouth pieces, but you can get infections from people you shared it with. The tobacco is the actual big danger as you can get hooked on it.

  2. First off, any possible dangers doesn't come from the hookah, but the people you smoke with. News stations love to blow this up. Unless they have it, you won't get it. Lounges hand out mouthpieces when smoking.

I keep a couple hundred of them at home for when my friends come over to smoke. Smoking for over 10 years and no problems, and I got Herpes Simplex 1(Lip Cold Soars), 15 years ago from my dad after drinking out of his Dr Pepper. After several years of dating and 3 years of marriage, my wife hasn't gotten it either...odds are... you are fine!
