Question:

Am I being careless about my diet?

I read all of these posts about somebody trying to take a dish and make it healthy. Sounds like a good idea but some things are not intended to be messed with. Like....

Making creme brulee without heavy cream

Making pate without fat

Making alfredo sauce without cream

Making quiche Lorraine without cream and bacon

Drinking light beer (totally pointless in my opinion)

Wouldn't you rather eat a proper alfredo sauce with twice the callories but eat it half as often than eat a flour thickened pasty version of the dish?

Wouldn't you rather drink 1/3 less beer than drink a beer with 1/3 less calories?

And for god's sake don't get me started on those lame excuses for a healthy potato chip.

What do you think?

  1. This is what I think.

All natural foods are good for you.  Fat has its place in our diet.  It helps to keep us warm, gives us energy and is necessary for proper brain or nerves function. There are four kinds of fats. Saturated, unsaturated monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.

Unsaturated fats mobilizes the saturated fats.  Therefore while eating your meat fats you need to ensure you also eat your vegetables, nuts and seeds.

I believe in most case it is what we do not eat that make us ill.  Eating a little of everything will ensure that we do not eat excess of anything.

  2. Agree completely.

My favorite is when people try to ruin pizza by using fat free cheese.

  3. Totally agree. If we ate normal portions, we'd be able to use butter and cream without feeling guilty.

The French add butter in most of their dishes. They also drink full milk and hardly anybody buys fat-free cheese.  However, a typical serving size is about 1/3 of a typical American serving size.

If you eat 3 pounds of meat for every meal, you'll still get a heart attack regardless of how lean the meat is.

  4. darlin'!!! I agree with you one hundred per cent!!!

I would much rather eat half a serving of something good as to taste a make believe excuse for it.

I just do not understand those who go messin with traditional "goodies" rather than just have less of it.

When planning your foods, always plan in a "cheat treat" once a week. This is something that would otherwise be totally sinful and forbidden and give you the guilts for having in the middle of a "diet".

ALL foods are Healthy!!! It is just the portion people eat that is unhealthy.

  5. absolutely not. youre a guy, you have a better metabolism. but being a girl i gotta watch what i eat. and yes id much much much rather have 2 cups of fat free milk over a cup of whole milk kafmsgbjka you know what dont even get me started. eating half of the "real" thing doesnt cut it for me. id rather eat 2x the amount of diet food for the equivalent amount in regular food.
