Question:

Am I being paranoid or is someone siphoning my gas?

Every once in a while I will notice a lower gas reading... I'm just wondering if gas can be siphoned from my tank or if I'm just being paranoid... Someone told me that it is very hard for my tank to be robbed with a fuel injected car. Is that true? I have a 2002 Ford Focus.

  1. You're being paranoid. Nobody steals just a little bit of gas, if you were getting ripped off your tank would be empty.

  2. Siphoning gas is something that happened a bit more during the gas crunch of the 70's. Everyone was buying locking gas caps. I haven't heard much about it lately. Yes you can still do it with a short thin hose and a gas can. You would probably smell gas though around your car unless they are really careful. Keep a log of your odometer and how much gas you get every time you fill up. That way you can keep an eye on you gas mileage and see if anything is amiss. I have a Ford Mustang, and would say that their gas gauges are a little weird. No they don't always read the same when you get back in the car as when you last shut it off. I would probably guess that it's not happening though.

  3. parking your car on any slope can make it feel this way it times, but if you are worried about it an locking gas cap is extremely cheap and some places will give it to you for free with an e-test. cheers.

  4. The fact that your car is fuel injected has nothing to with whether or not it's easy to siphon gas out of it !  Most cars have no provisions for preventing fuel theft. A small hose snaked down your gas filler will get them what they want.

  5. I would get a locking cap anyway..most cars now have a locking lid with a release inside the car.  It is not easy to siphon gas any more but not impossible either.  Try to remember if the "drop" in gas comes as the Gage is nearer to the empty mark.  When the tank is nearly empty the gage tends to "drop" more quickly.  Also check your mileage.  Good luck!  drive friendly

  6. It is very easy to steal gas, by a locking cap or a anti-siphoning device.

  7. Don't know too much about this but i presume if somebody wants

to do it , they always find a way.

But i also heard somewhere that depending on what time of day

you buy your petrol there is always some that evaporates, but if

you are noticing a definite difference , then usually you need to

follow your hunches !  ..... Try enlisting the help of a friend and

set a trap ...... you may just get your suspect.

  8. You have a leak in your gas tank.

  9. put a lock on  your cap
