Am I being unlucky?

5 years ago I retired to the Philippines because my soc sec check just was not enough to cover the rent in san francisco, now I find out I am going blind, treatment costing $1000 plus per month for the rest of my life, should I just commit suicide?

And yet, you have Internet access... as you are going blind, what assistive technology did you buy in order to allow you to continue to surf the Internet? How much did this, plus your computer and INternet access, cost in the Phillippines?
