I will be enlisting in the military but I do not know which branch to choose. Ive narrowed it down to these 2 branches but I am not sure. The main thing i'm looking for is lots of travel, good benefits, decent pay, wouldnt mind if the job was a little dirty. What do you recommend? A specific job?

  1. Please see the links below

  2. I am a former Marine it feels nice to say I AM A MARINE!

  3. air force

  4. It depends on what u like if u like the ocean and like to travel go for the Navy! I am lol.

  5. They are both great branches to join. They both have awesome benefits, and decent pay. Both travel a lot. The Marines are a little more dirty if you are a "Grunt" or regular soldier. Good Luck and I think you would be in great hands either way!

  6. Hi, if you want better travel, better benefits then I would go Navy.  The Pay is the same, just depends what program you go into and rating (job) you pick whether you start as an E-1 or go in to boot as high as E-3. Unless of course you go officer.

As far as ratings (jobs called in the Navy), if you're a smart kid I recommend anything in the ATF (advanced tech field) and if you don't mind getting dirty I recommend going in as NUKE. Nuclear engineering, good training, good money, minimum bonus right now is $16k for enlisting the only rate under this program gauranteed is MM, but there are two others ET, and EM.I recommend this, if you leave the Navy, you will be able to make from 90k to 100k in the civilian world going to work at a Nuclear Power Plant. It's great training, also the 2nd toughest school besides the 1st one being Harvard.

If not go for the CT fields or AECF program (this has ET or FC, Electrician's Mate and Fire Controlman) which works with electronics.

If you're not into electronics but want to do something medical, seeing you're a guy go for HM. Hospital Corpsman.

If you are creative, try for MC.

If you want to look at ratings and descriptions and what you would enjoy, head on over to http://www.mynavyonline.com, I'm KJC88 there and we are retired, active, DEP sailors and ready to go Navy people. We have a lot of more information and can help you orientate you on what kind of job you would like.

    Good luck sailor!

  7. The marines ARE navy, but I know what you mean.

Personally I would say navy, but it really depends where your heart is. Just go with what you feel closest to.

  8. The Navy. If travel and amenities is the kind of thing your're looking for then you are definitely not Marine material. The Navy isn't so easy either but has more "amenities" if you will.

As far as getting dirty, look at the website about.com and look up Navy jobs and the list of ratings (Navy jobs) will come up. Browse through those and pick  one that suits your interest.

  9. Would you rather do most of your job duites on land or on a ship? All branches offer travel, benefits and decent pay. Do you want to be sleep in a tent city at night or in a berthing with 100 other men with some air conditioning? It's all in how down and dirty you want to get.
