Am I bordering on clean freak???

Okay, I'm not really sure...I haven't got to the point where I wipe down pens and pencils when somebody uses them. My brother says I'm getting an OCD.

However, I do freak out when my brother doesn't wash his hands after going to the toilet. He does wash them when he does no2 but he tends to not when he does no1. He's got a horrible habbit of going into my room when he hasn't washed his hands and touching my TV remote and stuff.

I wash everything he touches after that, including the door handle.

I try to explain that just because he hasn't touched, you know, when he does no1, there is still fecal matter on the flush button, toilet paper roll and toilet door handle.

I clean the toilet with nearly a third of the bottle of toilet cleaner.

I've ended up keeping my tooth brush in a zip lock bag and make sure it doesn't touch anything.

I also wash my hands sometimes for no reason, but nearly every time I pet the dog....

Am I getting onto clean freak habbits???

  1. Yes, because clearly a fear is driving you which is getting a bit irrational.  It sounds as though you are afraid of germs which is quite a common one, but it is a problem if it is becoming the main focus of your life, which it sounds like it is.

Go and see someone because there is therapy for it.  Sooner you go the more effective therapy is, before the fear grows.

  2. I think, if anything, your brother is enabling you to be this way.  It's DISGUSTING that he doesn't wash his hands after he uses the bathroom (it doesn't matter if it's just #1).

My question to is whether you do this everytime HE leaves the bathroom or when everyone else in your family does as well?  Because you see, fecal germs can be spread just by flushing alone and can splash to up to even 6 feet away..so it's not just the flush handle or the toilet paper roll or the door k**b but other places as well that you may not be able to see the splash.  Also, if he's urinating and touching these objects, he's spreading urine matter (fecal matter is only deals with p**p).

From what it seems, I think the underlying factor is your brother and the fact that he won't listen to your cause for concern.  If you think it's just because your brother that you're running for the toilet cleaner then you need to have a serious talk with him or tell your family what he's doing and how it's bothering you.  Other things you can do are lock your room or install a lock and tell him to stay the h*ll out.

So, I don't necesarily think you're OCD.  I think your brother needs to learn what good hygene is.  At the same time, you shouldn't be using a third of toilet cleaner after your brother uses the bathroom either--even if it's out of frustration.  You both should come to some agreement because it's not healthy (both hygenically or psychologically) for either of you.

    Good luck!

  3. You're already well into clean freak territory and, yes, it's OCD.

    See a doctor.

  4. I know how you feel, cause it drives me crazy if someone doesn't wash their hands after going to the toilet, or after touching the dog or whatever. That I believe is perfectly rational, however,  I know I get a bit carried away with washing my hands sometimes- I don't know how to explain it, but I guess it's probably OCD.

    Good luck to you

  5. a little but nothing to worry about
