Question:

Am I considered a first timer?

I ask this because in September I had a fetal loss @ 23 weeks. I went through labor naturally, contractions, natural birth, epidural, the whole nine. Now I am 32 weeks and I am reading all these books about the birth, just to keep myself informed even though I have been through it and I keep reading that for first timer’s things are a little different. Like the baby’s head engaging, I read that for first timers, it usually happens a few weeks before giving birth and for women who have given birth before, it happens during the labor. Am I considered a first timer even though I had a preterm labor?

  1. It doesnt matter....EVERY pregnancy and EVERY delivery is different. Yours will definatly be different because you are going to have a much bigger baby at 40 weeks then you did at 23. Dont worry about it!

  2. No, this would be your second delivery.

Edit:  How would this not be her second pregnancy and delivery?  She has already had one.

  3. im not sure but i would guess since you went through labour vaginally before it would prob engage at the last minute

im really sorry for your loss, and wishing you a happy labour

  4. Medically, and uterine-wise, I would think so, since a full term baby is a whole lot bigger than a 23 weeker.  You are not a first timer, but you are a first time full timer.

I am so sorry for your loss.

  5. The first thing you should do is put the books down. Pregnancy and delivery are different for every single woman, every single, birth, every single time. Those books are designed to be NOTHING more than guidelines.  If I would have followed what the books said to do I would have given birth to my second baby at WORK. I'm not trying to be mean, I promise. But if you have concerns, the best thing to do is talk to your dr, then trust your instincts. NO ONE knows your body better than you.

Congrats, Good Luck , and GOD BLESS!
