Question:

Am I considered a "genius" or "gifted"?

When I was 6 years old I was tested with an I.Q. of 152. To get into my school it has to be above 130.

My dad scored nearly 10 points higher than me and he told me that when you are 6 years old an I.Q. test isn't accurate (it was professionally done).

That being said, I have not been able to replicate my intelligence quotient with my grades (4 A's, 3 B's) so my dad speculates that I have a much lower I.Q. than what was tested.

Could the I.Q. vary because of age? Would I be considered a "genius, "gifted", "average" etc...? What are the labels of scoring (like what I.Q. point is equaled to the certain labels)?

Thanks!

  1. I don't think that in real life your IQ matters. It's using what you know to act responsible, mature and doing the right thing that matters.

I think that someone who knows how to behave properly in society is a genius and it doesn't really matter what they score on a test.

  2. go away

  3. Many people make the assumption that your grades or your intellect mirror your I.Q. Which is completely wrong. Your I.Q. isn't necessarily how smart you are, rather how smart you could be. Okay, put it this way, your I.Q. is like an empty jar. The higher your I.Q., the bigger the jar. But, you could have a small jar that's filled to the brim with knowledge, or an empty large jar. The person with the smaller jar would have more knowledge than the one with the large jar. Do you see what I'm saying? Lol. Also, testing at that age is accurate because, like I said its not about how much you know but how your brain works, and how quickly you grasp things. Studies also show that gifted children have a completely different way of thinking than the average IQ person does. Einstein got terrible grades in school, was dyslexic, and was a high school drop out. But he was a genius. It's almost like if you have an amazing voice, but you never become a singer, or if youre a talented artist, but never drew anything. Just because you have a high I.Q. doesn't mean youre gonna get straight A's and become the next Confucious. Studies also show that a lot of gifted children do badly in school. I was tested too when I was like 7, and I was put into the genius category, but I don't always get good grades. In fact, I nearly failed 7th grade...  My mom and I did a lot of research on it and stuff, so that's how I know.. lol.

  4. you have to tell us the name of the iq test they are scored diferently even if it is "official but just saying ive never studied either and im the only one a lot of times to get an a in my private school and im considered gifted but not genious but be warned with these labels come  harder classes but yeah me  straight A's nothing below like 92ish ever so maybe but your dad sounds Einstien ish cause thats sorta how it was for him bad grades young good grades and smarts when older so that might be like in your dna or something cool so maybe when you hit highschool it will be like all A's haha cool also 180 is mensa level genious, but thats with certain mensa aproved test so you can go to there website and take there mini (test 30 questions) and it will tell you if have a chance or not with me it was a yes

  5. I.Q.s and school exams are not significant of ones intelligence as much as ones response to testing and exams. I have a 145 IQ and I'm an A-grade student at the master degree but I do not consider myself any more intelligent then anyone. Those tests do not test imagination, learning capacities, etc...

Sounds to me like your daddy is asking a lot out of you while he should be proud cause you do sound pretty intelligent ;)

  6. High I.Q.s do not always show themselves in good grades. I would

be interested to see what your father's grades were given he claims

he scored 162. I imagine you would be listed as gifted but I don't think

much about IQs as compared to what you are like as a person. There was a family in my neighbour and the whole family was gifted. the parents and the three boys and daughter. Got straight As, played several musical instruments, wrote fiction and poetry etc. One by one

they ended up with mental problems. The youngest boy became a drug dealer who is now in jail for murder. The next boy up was arrested

for s*x crimes, The oldest boy ended up being a police officer on

the drug squad(!) and shot himself. The daughter in a permanent

resident of the a hospital. So you never can tell.

  7. If I remember correctly 130 is considered genius, although I wouldn't trust an I.Q. test to determine intelligence. I.Q. tests were actually created to check children for mental disabilities, not to measure intelligence.

I'm curious what kind of school only allows people with an I.Q. of over 130 to join. Is it a school for the gifted?

  8. If you're not spewing out A's in school and breezing along like its second nature to you, you're not a genius. I'm sorry. D:

You're a smart kid, don't think I'm telling you that you're stupid. It's just, I made all A's (mostly in the high 90's) when I was that age up until I was in highschool where it started to drop to low B's.

I'm not a genius and I'm not gifted. I never studied either, so, yeah.

    :]

  9. 152 is pretty good, the average is 100. Mine is like 130something.

You should get it redone every so often, it's 7 years old, and your brain has dramatically changed since then.

I'm getting similar grades to you, i'm in yr 10 though.

  10. I really don't know much about IQ testing, but I personally don't think they are an accurate portrayal of ones intelligence. I have a friend who's brother was tested when he was five. He tested in the "genius range." However, I know this kid personally and "genius" far from describes him. He always did poorly in school and is now in his fourth year at a two-year college and still hasn't earned enough credits for an associates degree. His family still insists that he is a genius; he just doesn't apply himself. I think if he was a genius he would be smart enough to get his act together and graduate so he can start making a living, rather than continuing to fail classes and accumulating debt.

I personally wouldn't call you a genius, but I would say that your grades are great. IQ doesn't matter. What matters in the real world is that you get good grades, so that you can get into a good college and get a good job.

Just think, how would ones IQ even matter if they could not pass enough classes to graduate high school? Or likewise, how would their IQ matter if they were too immature or rude or arrogant to get a good job? Basically, in the real world, IQ means nothing. Your IQ won't affect how successful you are in life. Only how much you apply yourself will.

Keep up the good work and best of luck!

  11. I'll be in 10th this year, and last I checked I was like 147 or so. But your IQ isn't really relevant to school and real life. It really depends on your overall knowledge. So yea, I would say you're smart, but that's only based on your IQ. In school it's mainly about the grades, but there is also a life part to it all. YOu need to have life smarts as well as book smarts.
