Question:

Am I considered high-maintenance?

If I like to go to the hair salon every weekend & do my own nails, like to go for pedicures & wear natural makeup, cute clothes & jewelry? I'm 20 right now & I'm not shallow at all, I volunteer & tutor kids in English, but I also understand personal hygiene? Does this make me a high-maintenance girl if I always wear nailpolish & style my hair during the week?

  1. Yes, ....hair salon every weekend?  Cute clothes and Jewelry means just means expensive tastes for main line products.  Taking a shower every day, brushing your teeth twice a day +, washing your hands frequently throughout the day are good personal hygiene habits.  Nail polish and hairdos have nothing to do with hygiene.

Bottom line, if you can get ready within 30 minutes without throwing a fit and complaining; then no you are not high maintenance.

  2. Somewhat.

But its a LIE that you're "not shallow at all". That's a lie. Only vain people focus so much on their appearance.

I know it because I'm vain too.

  3. You aren't high maintenance if you're doing your own nails.

  4. Sounds like this "friend" was trying to bring you down.

Just because you like to take care of yourself doesn't mean you're high maintenance. Don't be so sensitive to what other people think...and never change yourself because of it!

  5. In my opinion high-maintenance girls require a certain attitude or air about them. Being high-maintenance isn't strictly about what your physically do to yourself. To me a high maintenance girl is terrified of "roughing it" even if it is only on an occasion or two.  They are generally obsessed with how they look, obsessed with taking pictures of themselves and generally can't walk past a reflective object without looking at themselves.

Like Kiki said, just getting your hair and nails done isn't a big deal as long as it doesn't consume your life.

You seem to be a sweet girl with a good head on your shoulders so I'm going to go with no, you aren't high-maintenance according to my definition at least.

  6. it sounds like you are just grooming yourself.  i wish i knew how to do my own nails. i am just awful, i pick and pick until my ends are crooked. the nail polish always goes over the edges.

  7. no.... dear....  ur jus keeping urself looking gud...  thats healthy... an its the right thing to do....  i do the same thing...  thats lots better than these women that jus let themselfs go an turn into fat slobs...

  8. You sound pretty normal to me.  You take care of yourself and keep yourself looking cool.  I don't see that as high maintenance at all.

  9. You could be - those aren't the only factors. But is a step toward the possiblity.

@Mike - vanity and depth/shallowness are not the same thing.

Even buddha was subject to personal vanity lol.

  10. *shrugs*

I don't think so... so you want to look good...good for you. As long as it's not consuming your life I don't see what the problem is.

    ADD:

Well, ignore your "friend". She's a douche. What you do in your spare time is your choice.
