Am I correct about the Romanian ordinal number for "un bilion"?

I think that the ordinal number for "un bilion" in Romanian is "al un bilionulea(mascline)" and "a o bilioana(feminine)".

Am I correct?

Thank you in advance.

  1. Soph, if you were reading the message I left for you on your last posted question, you'd had your answer already... all what you have to do is to use the same term, switching only the numeral...

  2. It's "Al un bilionulea" and "A bilioana".

But you should be careful when using "bilion".

There is a lot of controversy about its meaning, some take it as "1.000.000.000" (equivalent of Amer. Engl. "billion" - used in "short scale" countries) and some as 1.000.000.000.000 (equivalent of French "billion", used in "long scale" countries)

For the difference between the long and short scale numeric systems, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_and_sh... .

We tend to use the long scale more here in Romania, so if you want to say "a billion" (a thousand millions), you're better off saying "un miliard" / "al un miliardulea" / "a miliarda"

I'm really sorry if I sounded like a snob (if you already knew this), I just wanted to be helpful 'cause I know mastering a foreign language is difficult.

  3. Yes, you are correct for the first one.

The second one is a bilioana, without o.

    A suta , A mia, a bilioana.

  4. no, its like this

    un bilionar

    o bilionara
