I have lost my voice due to Laryngitis and won't be able to work for a few more days and have already missed a few days... my job requires me to make allot of phone calls and I need to be able to talk, does my Employment Insurance cover this? (I LIVE IN CANADA)

  1. I don't think so but I'm not sure. There used to be a 2 week waiting period before the insurance kicked in so basically you had to be off work for at least 2 weeks before any money starts rolling in. Also, I can recall some people I have known in the past waiting for 6-8 weeks before they got the first set of cheques. I'm guessing your employer does not provide short term sick leave pay so maybe you should ask them if there is another job you could do for a few days while your voice heals. That is probably a better option rather than trying to rely on anything the government might offer.
