Question:

Am I damaging my game?

I began a diet right at the start of the year so I could become lean. I am currently approx 13 stone (182 Ibs) and am more muscular than the average guy. I would probably need to lose 1/2 to 3/4 of a stone to become really lean. If I did this would I then be a bit too light to play flanker ? Or if I made sure I carried on with good weights routines then would this avoid the problem?

  1. Depends on your age and level of play. I'd say staying at around 182 lbs is a good weight. Hit the weights my man and put some muscle on.... us props are big at any age.

    Good luck.

  2. The face of Rugby has changed so much that these days the weight of a player doesn't mean as much as the strength and conditioning of a player. If you compare guys like Richie Macaw 100 kgs to old school flankers who averaged about 90kg he is leaner, stronger and faster than what those old guys would have thought possible back in the 80s and 90s but his extra 10kgs comes from muscle. I think it depends on your style of play, what level you are playing at and how tall you are.

  3. The bigger question here is what the h**l is a stone?

  5. How old are you?

You should be fine to play flanker if you are muscly and lean, also it would make you that bit quicker hopefully..
