Am I delusional or something??

Over the Summer I could run 3.5 miles in relatively good time, and only had to stop 1 short time. Now, during my cross country practices, i can barely run 2 miles. Is it maybe because i was always running on a nature trail with curves and bends, and now i am running on a circular track? Could the circular track be having a mental effect on me?? Or am i just out of shape?? (NOTE: I used to run at 7:00 at night, but practices are at 3:00. I know the heat has a big effect, but does the track have one too??)

  1. the track has a mental drain on you its easier to run on a nature course than on a monotonous track, and when you run with the team you tend to start out faster this can also cause fatigue, then put in the heat there you go, but hang in there listen to your coach you will be fine.

  2. The heat is a big part. But it could also be that you're running faster. I've found that was the case with myself. I would run a set course one day and feel great. Then if I tried it a week or two later, I felt like c**p even though I hadn't taken any days off. But when I compared the times that I ran it in, I was a lot faster the second time. So even if you don't feel as good when you run now, it's probably because you are training at a harder level now.

  3. I don't know if this affects everyone, but whenever I run distance on a track, it's normally slower than if I run on a trail.  I guess it's just because it's more boring.  In a race, it normally helps a lot to run on a track, but in practice, it seems to hurt me.  The same could be the case with you.  Also, that short break that you took during your 3.5 mile run might have helped you run farther, but I don't really think it would have a huge effect.
