My symptoms are ...

-ALWAYS thirsty. Like an unquenchable thirst.

-Always drinking, ergo, always going to the bathroom.

-Shaking randomly, I can't keep still for 5 minutes.

-Blackouts whenever I stand up. I mean like every time I stand up. Even if I've been sitting down for a minute. And I get up slow, not too quick?

-I lost 5 pounds in 2 days. I don't know if that's normal. I'm 13 and shouldn't I be gaining weight, not loosing it? I eat normally.

-My hands and feet randomly become numb, even when I'm like walking and doing active things like sports.

I told my mom about these symptoms and she said I'm fine, It's just a part of growing up. I said okay, but I'm still scared. Can anyone help me?

  1. Thirst/Drinking. (Polydipsia/Polyuria)

    Passing urine.

    Loss of weight.

These are symptoms of new onset diabetes.

Blackouts when you standup - postural hypotension, perhaps due to lack of blood volume from dehydration.

Hands/feet going numb/shaking - can't explain, need more details, could be due to low blood sugar level..

Get yourself checked out by a doctor, a simple blood test or oral glucose tolerance test can verify if you have diabetes or not

  2. Your mom needs to take you to the doctor for a good checkup.  It sounds more like you could be having low blood sugars, but you could also have diabetes, or it could be a number of other things.  Only a doctor can say for sure.  If your mom won't listen, talk to a teacher or a friends mom and have them talk to your mom.

  3. First two and the losing of weight are symptoms.. the others are not.

The shaking and blacking out seem like low blood sugar, but as an undiagonosed diabetic, your sugars would be high, not low.

Nonetheless, go to the a doctor, they can help you more then any of us can.

  4. A lot of your problem is your new "hormone" problem. You are a junior teen and that explains most of it.

The dizzies when getting up quickly are more likely to be blood pressure related. When you go by one of the pharmacies with the blood pressure desk, stick your finger in and wait for the results.

We can all lose or gain 5 pounds in 2 or 3 days depending on what we eat, what exercising we do, how much sleep we get. This is just a normal thing. DO NOT weigh yourself more than once a month.

Hands and feet becoming numb is a pinched nerve in your back. Not to worry about this at all. It happens.

It is summer in the northern hemisphere!! We drink more liquids when the weather is hot. Besides we are supposed to drink 72 ounces or 2 liters or about half gallon of liquids per day to maintain healthy digestion.

Unless you are spending more time in the bathroom than you are at the computer, don't worry about that either. When I am out in public doing my education demos, I find I go to the bathroom much less often than if I am here at home sitting here in the office!! It is a boredom factor I think.

Quit scaring yourself!! I am sure you are just a normal Junior Teen!!
