Heres the deal...I like to run. I love the feel afterwards and the feeling of feeling like I tired my best and did something beneficial to my health. But I wanna take it up a notch and am considering joining XC also this will be my first experience and I will be a Junior. I am determined to join the team, but I want to improve my running. SO XC people or people who have long distance endurance, can u share some advice on how you manage to run for so long consistantly w/o stopping to walk after a long period. Any advice on proper running technique, breathing, and how to stay motivated. I keep running out of breath after about 3 min although I breathe in and out slowly. HOW can I be a better runner in shape for XC??? Please....Best answer...definitely deserves full points!!! XD

  1. You have to work your way up. Running is hard, not like other sports where you can get in shape in a couple of weeks, it takes months to build up your mileage and base.

    Run everyday!

  2. Slow down! You aren't going to become an excellent cross country runner overnight!!

Lots of varied training is needed especially Hill training, fartlek, interval ect.

REMEMBER! Don't overload at once and go from nothing to training intensly everyday- just because you see other people doing it doesnt mean you should.

I run long distances consistently because i have had practice, lots of intense training, experience, i have the willpower and determination to not also,

I have passion which you must also have. I don't run because it's a chore or just because i want to win races, i just love running! You need lots of commitment and you have to be strong not only physically but also mentally and be able to believe in yourself!

You are out of breath because you must be a bit unfit and not used to running those sort of distances evidently yet. Take it easy, there is always next years cross country because it is a bit late to be thinking seriously about the Cross Country season.

Likewise, i am suffering from shin splints and have a lot of rest and i mean a lot. It has hurt me a lot and my physical fitness isnt what it used to be like so i am aiming for next years Cross Country season (:

Good luck with your running, all you need is the patience and dedication!

  3. what you need to do is increase your mileage each start with one than 2 and so on you will get so much better I'm the only freshman on my team right now i was so scared now I'm one of the best and fearless just believe in yourself good luck you are not doomed

  4. I run about 50 miles per week and I want to take walk breaks.  It is about telling yourself, "NO!".  That is the secret, as is the 50 miles per week. Good luck with your season and don't be afraid.
