I was born in South Africa after 1 Jan 1983. My mother was born in Malawi at the time it was a colony (Nyasaland) and has a british passport. My grandparents are UK born.

  1. I think that in order for you to be a citizen your mother would have to have been born in UK.  However, I think that because your grandparents were born in the UK, you could get an "ancestral visa" and go and live in the UK, and eventually become a citizen.

  2. Well your brother got his citizenship and both of you are born after 1st of Jan 1983 (which was when the rules changed enabling women to pass on their citizenship) so why would you think that you can't?
