I was born in America to an American father. My mother is Russian and was born in Russia.

Am I eligible for dual citizenship, and if so, how should I go about getting it?

I am eighteen.

Please help. Thank you.

  1. I believe you stated you were BORN here in the U.S.... I noticed other people didnt read that part and started talking about reporting your birth to the US Embassy... yada yada yada.

Contact the Russian consulate regarding an application for dual citizenship based on the fact that your mother was Russian.

I beleive what you want is a Russian passport in addition to your American passport (which you can already get if you havent already)... Good luck!

  2. You need to contact the nearest Russian embassy or consulate to ask if they allow dual ciizenship.

  3. If you were born in the US and can prove it then you are already an American citizen.  You are eligible to get a US passport.

  4. If your father and mother were legally married by the time you were born and he reported your birth at US embassy in Russia, then you already obtain US citizenship.

If your father failed to report birth at the embassy, or your parents were not legally married, he must legally acknowledged your birth by local law and report birth to the embassy.

If he fails to do all these and now you are over 18, sorry... case is closed.
