My car was parked in a council car park for a couple of hours. Whan I returned I found that my car had been vandalised.

Am I entitled to receive compensation from the council so that I am able to have my car fixed?

  1. Hmm, every answer gets a thumbs down...

They're all correct though, go back & look at the car park, you should find disclaimer notices everywhere.

If there are no signs, or they're poorly sited or not readily visible, you have a legitimate claim. Take photos for evidence.

  2. Not unless you can prove it was the council that committed the crime!

If you saw a dull looking man with a dodgy hairdo and a slime ball councillor look who was keying the car you may have a chance in a court of law!

  3. The council will accept no responsibility unless you can prove their gross negligence - which is unlikely (although camera footage of one their staff vandalising, or giving permission to vandalise your vehicle would cover it!!)  You will need to make a claim against your insurer.

  4. No because your car is on private property, and the council will have erected disclaimer notices like every other car park owner.  It will count as an own fault claim if you try claiming from most insurers.

  5. No not from the council.

But if you are with Direct line then you can claim from them.

Direct Line pay for repairs if your car is vandalised.

  6. No, you're not, you park at your risk.  It will say this on the signage.

  7. no, you park at your own risk.

To receive compensation you would have to prove neglect on the part of the council ( poor lighting, badly marked bays etc )

  8. You must be joking !

  9. No,the council have no duty of care responsibility ,they give you the option of using the facility, you don,t have to.You claim on your fully comp., ins.,.

  10. I very much doubt it . Everyone I"ve ever been in has a big sign that states you park at your own risk. S**KS doesn't it ? AND, you have to pay for the privilege.

  11. Nope....that's why you have auto insurance.

  12. no, most car parks will have a sign stating that parking atb own risk
