Question:

Am I feeling ovulation?

Last month, and now this month, I have felt lower back aching, accompanied by sharp pains in my left lower abdomen last month, and this month in my lower right abdomen.

The pain only lasts a couple days, at most, and has occurred midcycle both months.

But I've never experienced this before.

I came off the pill almost six months ago, and never in my reproductive life have I felt this, though.

So does that mean it can't be ovulation because I've never felt it before?

I'm confused.

No cysts or anything.

  1. It si not unheard of to feel ovulation. Some women can always feel it, some only feel it a few times, some all the time. I am one of the lucky ones that feels it most months. It feels kind of like there is someone in side poking you and when you stand up quickly it almost feels like it's pulling? If so, I wouldn't worry to much about it unless the pain becomes very intense or more often than once a month.

  2. I think that's ovulation! I have it too. Some times it hurts sooooo bad, it's unbelievable. All part of being women I suppose:)

  3. Yes, it is ovulation pain.  Because you have come off the pill, you are actually ovulating now, which is causing your pain.  Like you, I get it every month, mostly on my right ovary, but some months my left.  It is a pulling, twinging pain like cramp, which niggles away for a few days prior to and during ovulation.  The lower back pain is associated with it also.  For me, it is a sure sign of ovulation, which made it easier for me to know when to baby dance whilst trying to conceive (I am now 7 weeks pregnant!).  It is completely normal, but I know it can be uncomfortable. A hot water bottle and some panadol will help with the discomfort.

    Goodluck!

  4. It could most likely be ovarian cysts, they are very common (about 30-40% of women have them).

Ovulation pain typically lasts from a few minutes to several hours.

Depending on how long your cycle is, you may not ovulate 'mid cycle'.  Ovulation occurs 10-16 days before your period is due.  Calculate back, and see if it is on O day or not.
