Question:

Am I gaining too much weight?

I gained 8 pound between one check up and the next (4 weeks) and the nurse said that was a lot, so I'm really self-conscious now. I've been eating healthy and everything, so I don't understand why I gained so much weight. It doesnt sound like a lot to me, but I don't know why she would've said that, unless she was just being rude. I'm 18 weeks now, so I was 14 weeks at the last check up. Is this a lot, or am i just over-reacting?

  1. Only you know that.

  2. Don't worry about it. every one is different when it comes to gain pounds while being pg.. I only gain 20 pounds but after i had my daughter i only had 5 pounds to lose.so keep in mind that some of the weight your gain is the baby and everything else it's not all fat.

  3. If you are small/medium figured it will be just fine. Sometimes you will gain 6-8lbs, and the next visit, might only be 1/2-1 lb. I gained 5 lbs in my first 10 weeks and the next visit was 1/2 lb. If you are concerned just eat small healthy meals. More than likely it was just growth.

  4. Think, 8 pounds in a month and there is 12 months so you will gain 96 pounds in a year.

  5. I personally don't think it is, but then again, I'm not a doctor. From experience I can tell you that there are going to be months that you gain two lbs. and there are going to be times that you gain ten lbs in a month. Just keep in mind that what you are doing is for the baby, and if you feel hungry then most likely you NEED to eat. Don't worry about how much you gain, you'll have all the time you need to lose the extra weight gained AFTER the pregnancy. But you don't want to go overboard either with eating. It may be a good idea to ask your docs if  they think you could just be holding alot of water, since that is a big possibility. I hate to admit I gained SEVENTY-FIVE lbs. during my first pregnancy, but I also ended up in the hospital with toxemia, so that ended up being the reason for my excessive weight gain. Like I said, it may be a good idea just to check and make sure. I wish you and your baby all the best, and good luck too!!

  6. I'm sure its fine. Its probably mostly water weight and then you're body's just changing to suit your baby. Everything is fine. Congrats! : )

  7. I seemed to gain weight in spurts, so I wouldn't worry too much.  I had the same thing happen and the next month I think I put on one pound so it balanced out.

  8. some women gain up to 10 lbs. a week

  9. im 20 weeks and have gained 15 pounds. but im pretty sure 35 pounds is about how much weight is expected to gain throughout your pregnancy. im all belly so as long as the rest of me doesnt start growing ill be fine.

  10. Oh my gosh...I gained so much weight.  I gained 5 lbs at one check up and they told me to watch my weight and then at the next one I had gained 8 more.  Ha.  They told me to watch it again, but I did the same thing.  5 and then 8.  But then I evened out.  I gained a lot of weight, but I was so hungry.  My doctor said it was better to eat what I wanted and what I was craving than to be stressed about it, cause that wasn't good for the baby.  So you're probably ok.

    good luck

  11. Relax, everyone is different. She may have meant it in a good way, wow that is a lot of growth, keep it up!

BTW breastfeed as long as possible, it trims you down again after ;-)

  12. oh sweetie u're jsut overeacting. its okay. everybody is different. overall i have gained 32 pounds. i am 8 months pregnant. 6-10 pounds is waterweight on me if not more. on real hot days i have gained 6 pounds in ONE DAY! and lost 6-7 pounds OVERNIGHT! its so crazy! its almost fun stepping on the scale at night, and then loosing so much overnight..haha..but hey dont worry. the nurse was just rude. u're fine! even if u gain more than teh recommend weight range, who cares. everybody's body is different, some people can only gain 15 pounds no clue how they do it and others gain 50...

  13. you might have twins.

  14. Brian. That is so old.

I did that my last appointment and there were no freak outs! I asked my doctor and he said the average weight gain is 1-2 lbs per week. That's at the upper end of that range but it's not out of the norm.

  15. I'm gaining an average of 10 pounds an appt from my 4 th month on, and i've been eating well too. It could be water weight or the fact that you were skinny before the baby. I'm 6 months now and my doctor is just starting to talk to me about the weight. If your eating healthy there is nothing you can do about the weight.. its something we have to deal with. Just cut back on salts.. i've noticed i can gain pounds when i eat something salty.

  16. Thats not alot

    sorry

    but youre overreacting

    shes dumb:)

  17. First off gaining 8 pounds in 4 weeks after 14 weeks of being pregnant is not alot.  Sometimes Nurse's are under a lot of stress and can be rude for no apparent reason.  So what they say cant always be trusted.  you have gained so much weight because u are carrying another living thing inside of u that eats half the food that goes in ur body.  Your perfectly normal..

  18. maybe its muscle:)

  19. i went through spurts when i would gain 8 lbs in a few weeks then i wouldnt gain any for a few weeks, as long as you are taking care of your self, you dont need to worry. unless your blood pressure is up, then i would be concerned.

  20. It is a bit much so early in your pregnancy.  You should only be gaining about 1 lb per week this early and 1 - 2 lbs per week the last months of pregnancy.  The problem with excessive weight gain is that it can cause your baby to be bigger than "normal", also you will have a lot of weight to lose after your baby is born.

Most improtantly, as long as you are eating and drinking healthy, your body will do the rest.

  21. your only 18 weeks old??

  22. When it comes to gaining weight, your body will do what it needs to do.  I am a firm believer of that!  Unless your Dr. says there's a problem, don't sweat it; the nurse isn't your Dr. and she should have kept her comment to herself.  For 3 appointments in a row, I gained 10lbs between each appointment despite healthy diet and exercise.  Some women will gain more, some less.  Now is not the time to be worried about your weight.  All you need to worry about is growing that baby.  You can worry about weight after you bring a healthy baby into this world!

  23. so..... you're a fat *** deal with it!!

you got knocked up what do you think??

  24. Your nurse is rude. The average weight gain is 20-30 pounds. Just because you gain alot now does not mean you will continue to do so. Congrats and good luck!

  25. It may be water weight. Just try to keep eating healthy and doing some moderate walking. Everyone is different. My sister gains around 60 pounds with each pregnancy and she eats healthy and walks. And i haven't gained a single pound and I will be 15wks on monday, but im already overweight. Just drink plenty of water, and cut back on sodium. And you should be fine. Your baby is growing a lot. And gaining 20-30 pounds is expected if you are in the normal weight range. If you are overwieght or obese like me. Try not to gain more than 15 pounds. But if you do, you'll be fine. And if you are going to breastfeed that will trim you up. Especially if you keep eating healthy and start walking as soon as you are able. The baby weight should come off.

  26. I gained like 50 lbs. Don't worry about it, you can get away with it when your pregnant!

  27. Eat healthy and get moderate exercise and you should be fine. A pound a week is about normal. My dr. said the same thing to me, I gained 39 and 43 pounds respectively and lost it all with both kids, I'm a size 6 to 8. I've gained about 19 pounds with this one and I"m 22 weeks and I eat pretty well (not great all the time, I"m human) and I exercise so I don't really care as long as I don't break the around 40 mark. I know I'll lose it.

I really wish practitioners didn't put so much pressure on us like that! It's ridiculous. Besides, maybe you have twins in there! lol Eat right and exercise and don't stress. Some women gain more than others, it's natural. 60 pounds isn't natural, but you may not be one of those teeny girls who only gains 15-20 pounds either, just enjoy your pregnancy. :)
