Question:

Am I getting slow speeds for a 2mbs connection?

My current connection is given at at 2.1mbs but my connection speed never goes above 250kbps wherever I am downloading from, whether it be torrents, rapidshare, Itunes, or anywhere, it will never go above 250kbs.

Is this the normal speed to expect from such a connection?

  1. It is something to do with the difference between bit (b) and Byte (B)

    If the speed its showing is 250 KB/s then multiply it by 8, so its 250x8= 2000 kbps = 2 mbps

    Rest assured, you are getting nearly the speed you deserve.

  2. Download speeds are affected by many things, including how busy the source server is.

  3. If this is your download speed then no, but if that is your connection speed then yes.

  4. For a 2 mbps connection this is the maximum download speed you can get. You can test your broadband connections upload and download speeds in the following link,

  5. That is a very good rate for your connection.

    ISPs (and generally speed tests) shows speeds in bits (b) P2P clients, borwsers, etc., shows speeds in bytes (B).

    8b = 1B

    So your 2Mb conneciton = 250kBs
