I filed a 1040EZ tax return way back and got my refund. The last two digits of my social are 92 so I figure I should get it by the end of this month...if I get one at all that is. My question is what is the IRS's definition of a dependant. I dont think I am one and my dad cant remember if he put me down as one...shows how much he cares about me getting money...

  1. Depends on how much you make a year. I don't get one :(

  2. When you filed your taxes, did you indicate that anyone could claim you as a dependent?

If you live with your parents or are a student, chances are they claimed you so you would not be getting one.  It's strange that your dad doesn't remember, though, since that would mean an extra $300 for him.

  3. A dependent is someone that you cared for more than 6 months out of the year. Which means clothing you, feeding you, housing you etc....

  4. If your dad claimed you, then no you will not get one.  Dependents over the age of 17 do not qualify for the stimulus payment and even if you filed a dependent return you would still not qualify.  It should be mailed July 11 if you do qualify.  Go to www.irs.gov and find the link "wheres my stimulus payment" and it will tell you specific info on your payment.  Also it depend on if you have a tax liability whether you get $300 or $600.  Look on line 10 of your 1040EZ form. If it is a $0, then you will get $300.  If it is over $300 then you will get $600.  The government did not explain this very well!!  Hope this helps!!

  5. yea just be patient.

  6. "A dependent means that the person relies on you for their support. A person can be either independent (supporting themselves) or the dependent of at most one taxpayer."

I'm also pretty sure that a dependant cannot be over the age of 18, but I'm not positive.

Dependant or not though, if you worked last year, filed your taxes, and made over i think 2000 dollars, you will get a stimulus check.

  7. If you filed your own taxes and your father did not claim you you should get one by the end of this month.a dependant is a child wife etc, your dad can only claim you to a certain age if you are not in school legally.

  8. Both my boyfriend and I got our stimulus checks.  He said the last two numbers of his social were either 05 or 07, and he got his stimulus check right away.  We were expecting to get $600 each, because we are not elderly, we are not in the military and we both filed our taxes and received our refunds.  Neither of us received over $75,000 last year.  His stimulus check  was $300.  My last two numbers of my social is 75.  I just received my stimulus three weeks ago.  It was $528, not $600.  We don't know why we didn't get $600 apiece.  Just wait and see if you get a check.  Don't be surprised if it's not $600, because we were.  My boyfriend had made plans for that $600.  He was going to pay off some of his bills.  Now he only paid off half of them.
