Question:

Am I going to get arrested?

I'm a bit nervous. I have a traffic ticket I'm already late paying on and I received a letter in the mail saying I have 10 days to pay before criminal charges are pressed. I had sent in a check that bounced (when I mailed it I hadn't thought of a couple bills that would be coming out automatically). If I'm unable to get my fee in by the end of the 10 days, are they going to arrest me? I'm so nervous. I'm not sure I'll have the money to pay. I have 2 kids I stay home with all day. My husband works all day and is sometimes out of town. I'm a nervous wreck that we won't get the money to pay my ticket and I'll get arrested. Anyone know what is the next step? I won't know until Friday if I'll have the money to pay the ticket. It's a traffic violation.

  1. your licesnce will be suspended. no jail time or anything. but no driving for a minumum of 3 months

  2. They can issue a warrant for your arrest if you don't pay, so your best bet is to contact the court and try to work something out with them (like a payment plan or half now and the other half in 30 days).  If you contact them and let them know there's a problem, there's a good chance they'll work with you.  If you ignore this and hope it goes away, your reward may be a pair of silver bracelets and a free ride in the back of a police cruiser.

  3. It will depend on a number of factors, many of which we will not be able to determine.

It sounds that after 10 days the court will issue a warrant for your arrest on the traffic ticket. As for whether you will be arrested on that warrant...it will depend.

Most police depts do not actively hunt for folks with warrants for traffic tickets...simply we dont have the time.

However, occasionally when the warrant list gets too long we will be sent out to arrest as many folks with warrants that we can find.

Is there a friend or family member you can borrow the money from? Once a warrant is issued, there will be additional fees and obvious inconvenience if you are arrested.

  4. no you wont get arrested....your license may be suspended but not a warrant for your arrest....call the courthouse and ask for an extension on the 10 days...they may work with you....pay what you can and be honest.....it wont hurt to ask and you certainly wont get any help on this if you dont ask

  5. Do not fool around with this!  Do whatever you can to get the money, and take it there in person if you have to.  Borrow the money from a friend or relative if necessary.  Put off another bill if necessary.  The court is going to take this seriously, and you should too.

  6. They may suspend your liscence and make you pay more than your ticket amount to get it back.

If it makes you feel better i'm 16 and i wont get my liscense back until i'm 18

  7. Call the courts. How could we know if you are going to get arrested? See if you can work out a payment plan.

  8. CAN U JUST GO RIGHT DOWN THERE AND PAY IT ? GET SOME BODY TO SIT UR KIDS  FOR AN 1 HR OR MORE???

  9. In a situation like this i would see if i could borrow the money.  You may end up spending more not paying the ticket than you would spend just paying the ticket.  Be honest with whomever you are borrowing the money from and ask them if you could pay them back in two increments one the next time your husband gets paid and the second and last payment the next time he gets paid. That way it is not so hard on you financially due to your current money issues.  But make sure you pay them back because they will never be there for you again.
